Go do it!
Be prepared to have fun. This was a great experience and a wonderful end to the day. Good for families and singles. If children: No nudity, but be prepared to see naked butt checks.

Possibly the greatest show in Kyoto
You have to come and watch this show if you are visiting Kyoto! It was the best part of our whole trip in Japan! The entertainment factor is incredible from the sumo wrestlers who interact with the crowd so well. To add to this, you also have a knowledgeable host who tells you all about the history, training and rules of sumo, a Geisha performance, fun audience games, and unlimited food and drinks. This is not an experience you want to miss out on!

Excellent show
Great entertainment. Friendly staff across the board; always attentive and responsive. A brilliant introduction to Sumo. Good food and a fab ordering system complete the offering. Not sure it could be improved, so, very many thanks.

Fun family experience.
This was a fun family experience. The kids really liked it and laughed at the somewhat silly nature of the show. So that was great. If you are hoping for real sumo this is not it. But it is a lively atmosphere with crowd cheering and participation. Fun performance of sumo. Audience members got to dress up at the end and “fight” the sumo wrestlers. We also saw real sumo tournaments while visiting Japan, but could appreciate what this show offered. But I am thankful we saw the real event as well. Good food and good value for all the food/drinks. Personally, I prefer more serious learning/cultural type of events and probably would not have enjoyed it so much with just my spouse, but it was great with our 12 & 14 year old and I was glad we went.

Don't expect real sumo
If you're hoping to see actual sumo wrestling, Kyoto Sumo Club probably isn't the place for it. For most of the show there was no wrestling at all, and when a match finally happened about an hour in, it was clearly staged rather than a real bout. Much of the evening was taken up by jokes and comedic bits, and some of them felt like they were poking fun at the sport rather than celebrating it. As someone genuinely interested in sumo and its traditions, I found that a bit disappointing. On the plus side, the food and drink were decent, and it was all you could eat, so you definitely won't leave hungry. Overall, it felt more like a tourist trap than an authentic cultural experience. It might suit you if you want a lighthearted evening with a good meal, but if you want to understand or watch real sumo, try to catch a tournament or visit a morning practice at a sumo stable instead.

Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback with us. We are sorry to hear that the experience did not fully meet your expectations. Our show is designed as an entertainment experience that introduces aspects of sumo culture through demonstrations, comedy, and interaction, rather than presenting an official sumo tournament or professional bout. We truly appreciate your comments, especially regarding your interest in sumo and its traditions. We will take your feedback into consideration as we continue to improve the experience for our guests. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed the food and drinks, and we sincerely appreciate you sharing your honest thoughts with us.
