This is much more than a tour of the castle. Its a fascinating history of the Knights Templar from their beginning to the end. Full of dealings with popes and kings, and royalty, great battles and riches and subterfuge and betrayal and why the Knights came to Tomar and built the convent of Christ. This continues on through the tour of the convent Fernando was our guide. Make sure you get Fernando. He tells the story with enthusiasm and authority, which makes it ever so interesting. He knows the castle inside and out. He can explain every design and feature and relief and why they were designed the way they were and what they are meant to represent or depict. Fernando is also just a great guy who loves his job. Take this Tour.

Fernando was wonderful. He is extremely knowledgeable and entertaining. It was a wonderful 7 hours learning about the history of Portugal and the Knights Templar. We toured the convent and the castle. He revealed details and history about the convent we would have missed without his guidance. The tour of Tomar and the churches and synagogue was delightful. Again, he brought to life the town with fun anecdotes and history.

oh this c was a lovely tour. fernando was so knowledgable and so easy to talk to. i leant so much. id stay overnight in tomar if i could to extend my knowledge
