Our guide was phenomenal and made all the difference. You could explore these places on your own, but our guide brought it to life. Highly recommend.
We booked a full day trip through getyourguide. We were a small group of seven tourists in total. Vlora Daily Trip were very efficient and communications were good, confirming the details the night before and letting us know when they were 10 minutes away from pick up at our hotel (that convenience was one of the reasons I picked this trip). Their usual driver had a medical problem so unfortunately we had a driver who didn't really speak English, but he was friendly and drove safely, so we got by well enough, even managing to share a few jokes! The transport was clean and comfortable and we were given a free bottle of water and a coffee. There isn't much to see at Zvernec (we stayed just 20 minutes), but the view across the foot bridge is breathtaking, Appollonia isn't on the scale of Ephesus, for example, but it was still quite impressive (we spent 90 minutes here), with some information boards (a guided tour would have been great), and I used the Internet to get more details at both sites. Berat was the crowning glory and here we had an English speaking guide, Bruno. The city is beautiful with a lot of history and legend, and Bruno was entertaining and informative. I would certainly recommend a trip to Berat. Bruno also recommended a nice place to eat at the end of the two hour tour, where we had some traditional food a cold beer. All in all it was a nice way to see and experience a different side to Albania away from the coast where we were staying in Vlore. The day was rounded off by a stop at a beautiful vista along rhe Vlora bypass. Absolutely stunning!
