It was worth it! Excellent private solo trip. On-time, safe, long hours (10-12 hrs) with interesting spots to explore, enjoy, and learn. Kevin helped a lot throughout the trip. Friendly and informative too. He also ensured that I was happy with the tour. Thanks a lot!
This guided tour sounded great in the description, but the time pressure and poor planning by the guide (Kevin) made the experience a disaster. We had booked the last pick-up time because we had other plans that morning. The guide picked us up at the hotel at the appointed time and started to drive us to the train station, but after just a few hundred meters his phone rang and he told us that he had to turn around because he had apparently picked up the wrong people. When we got back to the hotel it turned out that we were the right people anyway. Bad start! We went to the train station and the guide bought tickets for us, accompanied us to the platform and waited there with us. A voice over the loudspeaker announced that the train was delayed by 30 minutes. The guide said that we would not be able to do everything on the tour if we waited for the train and suggested that we should instead reverse the order of the tour and take the car to Galle and take the sunset train back to Colombo. We thought that sounded like a good suggestion. The guide said that one of the seat belts was broken, but drove calmly and safely on the highway. However, it took a long time and there was not much to see along the way. Once in Galle we went straight to the fishermen for a photo stop. It was nice, but unfortunately it was low tide and the fishermen were just pretending to fish for the photos. According to the tour description, we were then supposed to stop at Jungle Beach, but the guide said that we didn't have time and there was nothing to see, so he skipped it and instead drove straight to Galle Fort. It was a shame, because we had brought swimwear and had hoped to take a swim. At Galle Fort the guide showed us around and told us about the history. However, there was no time for any personal time there and it all felt very stressful. Then we quickly went on to the Koggala Sea Turtle Conservation Project, which was the highlight of the trip. On the way, the guide stopped to buy himself lunch, which we thought was strange since we didn't have much time and since we ourselves had said that we could skip lunch as long as we made it to all the stops on the tour. When we came back from the Sea Turtles, the guide told us that we probably wouldn't make it to the sunset train if we didn't skip several stops, so we unfortunately had to skip Turtle Beach and the Japanese Pagoda even though it was on the program and we had been looking forward to these stops. The last stop was instead the boat trip in the mangrove caves. The program said 60 minutes, but the guide talked to the boat drivers and said that we would only have 30 minutes to catch the train. The boat trip was nice and we stopped at Cinnamon Island, among other places. However, it felt very stressful, so we couldn't really enjoy it. When we came back after the boat trip, the guide said that we probably wouldn't make it to the train! We were very disappointed and tried to explain that we had already skipped several stops on the tour to have the opportunity to experience the train journey home. That's when hell began. The guide drove like a madman and honked his horn all the way to the train station. Made several life-threatening overtaking maneuvers and I felt very unsafe because the seatbelt in the car was broken. The atmosphere in the car became very unpleasant. The guide claimed that he had done everything he could to make sure we had a good trip, but the truth was that he was very bad at planning. The train was fortunately delayed so we made it. So after the nightmare drive to the train station, the guide bought train tickets and told us that we would get off the train at the third station. Luckily, we followed the journey on Google maps and realized that it was actually the eighth station that we were supposed to get off. I then wrote a message to the guide and informed him that he did not need to come and pick us up at the station in Colombo to take us to the hotel. We took a TukTuk instead and were happy not to see him again. The tour is not recommended!

Very interesting train ride with views of the coast and people's daily lives! My guide was Kevin (Indika) and he was very kind taking me to the moonstone mine and the mask museum which were optional! The boat trip and the highlight, with crocodile and fish massage. In the afternoon, the sunset closed the day at the Galle fort! Finally, a perfect day with fun, culture, and many landscapes always accompanied by Kevin's attention! Highly recommend!

This was such an awesome tour which included a train ride along the coast, visit to a turtle hatchery, a Madu River safari, cinnamon gardens visit and a visit to Galle Fort lighthouse.
