So we chose a moonless night, there was absolutely NO way to not be able to see the bioluminescence. The guides were AMAZING - so this is no reflection on them at all - but even with the tarp that they brought, you could barely see the bio. It was a severe disappointment and we would have preferred to have paid $300 towards something other than what looked to be a glorified kayak adventure. I read through reviews and thought we were in the best night of the month so there would be no way to not enjoy this and see the bio. Well we didn't. There are apparently other bio lakes in the area that are better - DO those instead. We didn't see anything like the pictures show and I'm not kidding when I say that we saw hardly anything. It was a disappointment and I recommend you save your money for the cruise excursions (If you are here for a cruise) or go to a different bay. This ain't it unfortunately. (And trust me when I say, I really wanted it to be!) I tried to take a picture and a video but there was absolutely NOTHING to capture.

Thank you for recognizing our guides and the great job they did during your tour. We are, however, sorry to hear that the level of bioluminescence you experienced did not meet your expectations.
We do want to clarify something important for future guests. Bioluminescence is a 100% natural phenomenon and is never guaranteed, even on a moonless night or under otherwise ideal conditions. This information is provided prior to booking and throughout our website specifically because the intensity can change from one night to another for reasons completely outside of any tour operator’s control. A moonless night can improve viewing conditions, but it cannot guarantee that the organisms will glow strongly.
Our experience is also not sold solely as a “glow tour.” It is a guided nighttime kayaking eco-adventure through the mangrove ecosystem to the bioluminescent lagoon. Along the way, our guides share information about the mangroves, local ecosystem, wildlife, constellations and bioluminescent organisms. Even on evenings when the glow is minimal, the guides still provide the complete guided experience.
We also want to address the comparison to photographs. We do not publish photos of Bioluminescence because it is notoriously difficult to photograph with ordinary phones and cameras. Also these images should never be interpreted as a guarantee of exactly what will be visible on a particular night, that is why we do not post them. Nature simply does not work that way.
We completely understand being disappointed when you hoped to see a stronger glow. What we cannot control—or honestly promise—is how brightly a natural organism will illuminate on any given evening. That is precisely why we make this clear before guests purchase their tickets.
We appreciate that you specifically acknowledged our guides as “amazing,” and we’re glad they provided the level of service we expect from our team. We only wish Mother Nature had provided the stronger display you were hoping to see that evening.

The guides were great....
The guides were great. The excursion was very exciting. Only we did not see any luminance in the bay.

Thank you so much Dennis for your kind words! We’re happy to hear you had an exciting excursion and that our guides took great care of you. 😊
We’re sorry the bioluminescence wasn’t visible during your visit. Unfortunately, the glow is a natural phenomenon, and its visibility can vary from night to night depending on natural and environmental conditions. While we can’t guarantee the amount of luminescence, we’re glad you still enjoyed the kayaking experience.
Thank you for joining us and for sharing your experience! 🌙✨

Excellent adventure experience with the Family
I had the opportunity to enjoy the Bioluminescence Kayak Excursion in Laguna Grande, Fajardo, on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, together with my family and I can say that it was a simply unforgettable experience.
From the beginning of the excursion, the guides Zion and Joel demonstrated exceptional professionalism. At all times they were attentive to the safety of the group, offering clear instructions and providing help when it was necessary, which made us all feel safe and fully enjoy the adventure.
In addition to guiding us through the impressive channels surrounded by the mangrove forest of the Fajardo coast, they shared very interesting information about the Laguna Grande ecosystem, the importance of the mangroves, the fauna, the flora, and the natural phenomenon of bioluminescence. Their knowledge and enthusiasm made the tour much more than a simple kayak ride; it was an educational and enriching experience. We were even able to observe a small monkey that was watching us in a majestic tree.
Paddling under the stars while the water glowed with bioluminescence is something difficult to describe with words. It is one of those experiences that you have to live at least once in your life.
I would definitely repeat this adventure without thinking twice. I recommend this excursion to families, couples, and groups of friends who wish to enjoy nature in a unique and safe way.
Thank you very much to Zion and Joel for making this night such a special and unforgettable experience! Five stars, totally deserved! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Nice Eco Kayak Trip
We did not see any bioluminescence, which although disappointing, was out of the companies control. We did have a really nice evening kayak through the mangrove channels and watched a lovely sunset. On the way back through the mangroves, it was almost completely dark and we got a near light show from the click beetles (similar to fireflies) illuminating the mangrove canopy.
Our guides were also great! John, Zion, and Leo answered all our questions and made our trip really fun!
I would recommend doing the 6:30pm tour, as you'll get a view of the mangrove channel while there is still sunlight as well as be able to watch the sunset before the bioluminescence becomes (hopefully) visible.

Not worth it unless you enjoy kayaking with mosquitos for just the possibility of bioluminescence
This tour was the biggest let down of our trip. You kayak through a 1.5 mile swamp canal with a ton of mosquitos to an open bay that is actually beautiful if there is enough light to see it and there was 0 bioluminescence in the bay. They gave us a tarp to put over our heads to try and see anything but there was nothing. The tour guides were nice but they knew there wasn't going to be anything visible. They told us the tide was too high and there was too much water coming in to see the organisms. I bet the tour would be worth it if what you are there to see, was actually there. I know they say no refunds but my recommendation to this company would be to let people know upfront if they know there isn't any visible bioluminescent organisms visible that day so that people can make their own choice on whether or not kayaking with mosquitos is worth seeing a dark bay. I would've chosen to forego my money and skip the misery then to be subjected to a dark paddle with a bunch of mosquitos and sargassum.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We’re sorry that the conditions that night did not meet your expectations, but we would like to clarify a few important points for future guests.
As clearly stated throughout our website and tour information, bioluminescence is not guaranteed. The amount of visible glow is a natural phenomenon that can change from night to night, and unfortunately, it is not something we can predict or control. For example, this week we started Monday with virtually no visible glow, while Tuesday had noticeably more bioluminescence. Because conditions can change so quickly, we cannot tell guests in advance that there will or will not be glow—we can only explain how the phenomenon works and make sure guests understand that it is not guaranteed.
Our experience is also advertised as a night kayaking tour in the bioluminescent bay, not simply as a guaranteed “glow” tour. The experience is about much more than the bioluminescence. Guests paddle through the mangrove canal at night, learn about the ecosystem, and experience Laguna Grande from the water in a way that cannot be experienced during the day. As you mentioned yourself, the Laguna is beautiful, and that ecosystem is an important part of the experience.
Regarding the mosquitoes, tide, sargassum, and other natural conditions—you are correct that these can be present, and we certainly understand that they can make the experience less comfortable. However, these are also natural elements of paddling through a mangrove environment at night. We do our best to prepare guests and provide things like the tarps mentioned in your review for a better experience , but we cannot control the natural environment.
We appreciate your feedback and are always open to hearing where we can improve. At the same time, we want future guests to understand exactly what this experience involves and to have realistic expectations before booking. We’re glad you found our guides friendly, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your perspective.

Unsafe! Don’t do it
Worst experience of our trip. My husband and I went during our honeymoon. While the lack of bioluminescence was disappointing, I understand that’s a natural phenomenon and not something the tour company can control.
What they can control is safety, and that was the biggest issue. The channel was packed with large groups of kayakers, motorized boats, and tour groups all trying to navigate the same narrow waterway at the same time. The current was surprisingly strong, and the entire experience took place in near-total darkness. The lack of organization made it feel chaotic and unsafe.
We witnessed multiple collisions and close calls, and at one point our kayak flipped, resulting in cuts and injuries that the tour guide didn’t even offer first aid for. If you’re considering bringing children, I would strongly reconsider. The conditions felt far too dangerous, especially for inexperienced kayakers or families.
Overall, the experience was overcrowded, poorly managed, and did not feel safe.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We are sorry to hear that you did not feel comfortable during your tour, and we appreciate the opportunity to address some of the concerns you mentioned.
First, we understand that the lack of visible bioluminescence was disappointing, and as you acknowledged, this is a natural phenomenon that we cannot control. The same applies to the nighttime conditions. Our website clearly explains that this is a night kayaking experience in a natural bioluminescent bay, and navigating in darkness is an essential part of the experience. Artificial light would interfere with the conditions needed to properly experience the bay and observe the bioluminescent organisms.
Laguna Grande is a shared waterway. On any given night, there may be multiple tour companies, kayaking groups, and motorized boats using the same channel. For this reason, our guides provide instructions regarding staying in line, maintaining awareness, and following the guide throughout the experience. These conditions are not unique to our company, but are part of navigating this natural environment at night.
We also want to clarify the characterization of the experience as “dangerous.” We have been operating these tours for more than 20 years, and while kayaking naturally involves certain risks—such as capsizing, contact with branches, or minor cuts—these are not the same as an inherently unsafe or unmanaged operation. On the evening of your tour, despite the concerns described in your review, there were no serious injuries reported. We take safety seriously and continuously monitor conditions and our guests throughout every tour.
We also received feedback from other guests who participated in tours around the same time, and their experiences were not consistent with the level of concern described in this review. We respect that everyone can experience the same activity differently, but we also believe it is important to provide future guests with a balanced picture of what the experience involves.
Our goal is always to provide a safe and enjoyable way for guests to experience Laguna Grande and its unique ecosystem. We appreciate your feedback and will continue to use it to evaluate and improve our operation.

Great trip
We had a great time enough though it was a full moon and hard to see things. The guides were amazing and put tarps over us so we could still enjoy the bay. Highly recommend using this company.

Save your money
perhaps my expectations were too high. A picture shows a really cool bio illumination but we had no where near that experience. We were doomed from the start as our group included 2 dozen teens that were screaming and crashing the kayaks. Once in the lagoon, we did not see any illumination. So very disappointing. The guides did a good job but they rope all the kayaks together so it is beyond difficult to see the bio illumination. I don't recommend.

Hi Paul,
Thank you for taking the time to share your honest feedback — we truly appreciate it.
We’re sorry to hear that the experience didn’t meet your expectations. Bioluminescence is a natural phenomenon, and while some nights can be incredibly bright, other nights are much more subtle depending on factors like recent rainfall, moonlight, water conditions, and microscopic organism levels. We always try to communicate that glow intensity can vary , but we understand how it can feel disappointing when it’s not as vibrant.
Regarding the group dynamic, we do our best to manage all participants and keep the experience enjoyable and safe for everyone. When we temporarily rope kayaks together, it’s primarily for safety and group control in certain areas, especially when conditions or group size require it. That said, we understand how that can make viewing more challenging, and we appreciate you pointing that out. Feedback like yours helps us continue improving how we manage different group situations.
We’re glad to hear our guides did a good job — we’ll be sure to pass that along to them.
Thank you again for being candid. We truly value your perspective.
