This was such an amazing experience! My husband, daughter, and I went for her graduation trip. We loved learning how to make dumplings and write Chinese calligraphy. All of the food was delicious! We really enjoyed talking with our guide and learning more about Chinese culture, history, and daily life. They were also flexible to accommodate our schedule. Thank you!

100% recommended. The calligraphy and dumpling-making experience was one of the most enjoyable things we did in China. Both activities were surprisingly challenging, but with some guidance it was possible to achieve great results. What made it truly special was being welcomed into a local family's home. It provided an authentic glimpse into everyday life, and our guide’s explanations gave us a much deeper understanding of Chinese culture and traditions. To top it all off, the meal we shared at the end was absolutely delicious, honestly better than many of the restaurants we visited during our trip. Every dish was fresh, homemade, and full of flavor. A perfect experience for anyone who wants a genuine insight into Chinese culture. Highly recommended.

My business colleague and I wanted to explore Hutong but were not interested in busy tourist spots, nor Insta-ready iconic spaces. This tour, the calligraphy and dumplings, appealed to me because it sounded like a more culturally rich experience, because I like to learn about local traditions (food and art!), and because it was unrushed. Chuan was our guide, and I am grateful for his patience, his English, and his familiarity with the family-host. We learned about a few, meaningful Chinese symbols and that there are both script and ‘cursive’ ways to draw. We were able to practice with and learn from a master. Our host-family’s room was a pleasant, comfortable space away from the December snowfall. And we finished our session with a plentiful luncheon of our dumplings and a well-rounded home-prepared meal with chicken (2 ways), pork, broccoli, beer, and more. If you take this tour - and I highly recommend it - it’s your own fault if you leave hungry. Pure delight. I would do this again.

Surprisingly good food, very generous family and guide, a great experience with lots of memories!

The people at the Meeting point were worries because i stood there like I had no plan. The Workshop is very interesting, you learn a lot about the diffrent typea of ink that was used and how it is today. Master Yan is very Kind and has a lot of patience explaining everything. My guide Chuan was also really great. He could tell me a lot of things i did not know yet about the Hutong where we were doing the course. He helped me a lot with the translation. So if you do not talk chinese it is no problem. Also the food was really good.

This was the highlight in Beijing. We already did the Great Wall, Tian An Men Square, and the Forbidden City. We went to the museum where our host told us to meet. Just text him when you’re outside and he’ll come get you. That’s because you will walk through ancient city streets to the house where the cooking and calligraphy takes place. Our host was translator while the calligraphy expert guided us through writing several meaningful Chinese characters. We each did about 10 copying the master. Afterward, we got a demonstration on how to make dumplings. Rolling the dough, cutting the pieces, rolling the individual skins, placing the filling, and how to wrap them like a pro. Then they served us a massive lunch which included our own dumplings cooked. Finally, our guide dropped us by the adjoining lake and pointed us toward drum and bell towers. We wandered through the ancient village - window shopping all the way. Then got a cab after we watched the on-the-hour demonstration of the drum beating at the top of the drum tower. GREAT day. Really our favorite activity. The 6 of us (3 couples) had an awesome day.

This experience was a highlight of our trip! The host welcomed us into a real Beijing courtyard home and showed us how to make dumplings from scratch. She spoke Chinese, but our guide translated everything clearly, which made it easy to follow and added to the authentic feeling. Beyond cooking, we learned about daily life in the hutongs and shared a delicious meal together. It felt warm, personal, and truly local, nothing like a tourist show.
