On 9/3/2026, my husband and I had the pleasure of taking the Veuve Clicquot Winery Tour. The champagne cellars are located in Reims, possibly the most charming city in all of France. In addition to the cellars, Reims is home to the Notre Dame Cathedral where dozens of French sovereigns were crowned. The cathedral is even more ornate than the one in Paris, and one can easily imagine why kings were crowned in this location. The tours at Veuve Clicquot are held in the actual cellars, which were 55 to 65 feet below ground, so bring a sweater. The guide exuberantly gave us an in-depth history of Madame Clicquot, as well as the champagne-making process, through storytelling, hands-on demonstrations, and the use of video and print technology. The group was kept to 20 people so it was quite personalized. At the end of the tour, we were given four glasses of Veuve to taste. One of them was going to be released to the public the following Monday, so it was fun to be an “insider,” if only for a scant few days. I highly recommend a visit to Reims as well as to the Veuve Clicquot Winery. There is a restaurant at the winery, but we opted to head back.
