This is obviously a tourist thing to do. We bought tickets in advance and we were hopeful that it would be a good experience. Be forewarned that it’s very much an operation designed to push large groups of people through from floor to floor and room to room. There is information shared along the way, lots of info on the walls and things to take pictures of. So it serves the purpose. But it does feel very rushed and gives you basics that you could find on a google search. It ends with a plastic Ninja star throwing contest and of course, a gift shop. Then you have to climb down multiple flights of stairs outside the building to get to the exit. It all felt very uneventful and isn’t necessarily an attraction we would recommend. But not sure there is anything else like it.
It really exceeded my expectations. The sword training was fun but not silly. Plenty of time for photos. Our instructor Kenny was super nice and knowledgeable. Our class had 10 people. My teenagers and i enjoyed the sword fighting (1 hr) as well as the cultural museum tour afterward (1hr). The tour had about 20 people. The tour ended with a shiraken throwing contest for the entire group. My wife did the tour only but she was allowed to watch our sword training.
The tour was an hour long and at a decent price. They have authentic samurai weapons and armor, and loved our guided tour. At the end, we got to throw ninja stars. They were plastic, but very fun. It was worth it.
What an experience this was and so much fun with a knowledgeable and jokey guide. Exceeded my expectations. A must when in Tokyo.
This is not really a museum. It is more of a story telling visit. The guide was very enthusiastic but it looked to me more aimed at kids than 20 adults that were in the visit. You may as well listen to a podcast telling you about samurais. They may have 6 samurai uniforms and a bunch of swords. That is it. We were 4 educated adults and we all agreed.
Dear guest, Thank you very much for visiting SAMURAI MUSEUM. We appreciate your kind comment about the guide’s enthusiasm. At the same time, we are sorry that the experience did not feel like a museum visit and did not meet your expectations in terms of depth and audience balance. We appreciate your feedback and will share your comments with our team for improvement. Best regards, SAMURAI MUSEUM
It was a really fun experience. The staff are knowledgeable and helpful. We learned a lot and had fun.
Visiting the Samurai Ninja Museum in Asakusa was a terrible waste. Light hearted tourist entertainment, not a museum. The tour guide spoke with such a strong accent we literally thought she was speaking Japanese. In 45 minutes we only managed to pick out a few sentences about the very basics of Japanese history. The museum has a display of antique swords and antique Samurai costumes, but offered little explanation of either. The last 10-15 minutes of the 45 minute “tour” consisted of throwing plastic stars at a corkboard, imitating Japanese ninjas. OK for kids I guess, but the experience is a total waste of time and money for anyone curious about Japanese history and looking for a real museum.
Dear guest, Thank you very much for visiting SAMURAI NINJA MUSEUM Asakusa. We are very sorry to hear that the experience did not meet your expectations. We also apologize that the guide’s English was difficult to understand and that the tour did not provide the depth of historical explanation you had hoped for. We appreciate your feedback and will share your comments with our team for improvement. Best regards, SAMURAI NINJA MUSEUM Asakusa
I enjoyed the Samurai and Ninja Musiem. We received a summary of the samurai during the Edo and Meiji periods when shoguns ruled Japan. There were exhibits featuring Samurai equipment and weaponry and Ninja accessories. The museum had an interactive star throwing segment which was safe and so much fun for all of the participants. We enjoyed this tour.
