We walked in around 12:00 pm on a Thursday afternoon and had a nice walk through the aquarium. We appreciated the photos of the fish to identify them, as well as the interesting factoids about them. It wasn’t the most impressive aquarium I’ve been to, but it was nice enough.

Family oriented visit

Prepare for chaos
We went with our 3 year old and despite timed entry slots they do allow it to become extremely crowded. This meant we struggled to see many of the exhibits without a lot of pushing and shoving.
The layout is good, with different themed zones and a huge amount of information about the different fish. We particularly enjoyed seeing the seahorses and jellyfish.
The penguin exhibit left me feeling really sad. Small, dirty and nothing like the natural conditions these beautiful creatures should be living in.
It wasn't a cheap day out and although we're regular visitors to London we won't be rushing back.

During peak periods, such as weekends, bank holiday weekends and school holidays, we do tend to see a higher volume of guests than usual, so the attraction will often be a lot busier on those days. We do advise guests to book for less busy times and during off-peak periods where possible so they can avoid the crowds.
I hope that I can reassure you that the environment we have is perfectly suited to the animals we have in our care. Our penguin home was designed with help and advice from specialist vets to greatly exceed the legal criteria, and to keep them protected from the dramatic changes to our British weather that could make the penguins ill. The habitat being designed with help and advice from specialist vets and BIAZA membership experts in penguin husbandry. We also have regular visits from independent specialist vets who check the penguins are in top health.

Sad mess
Overall the aquarium is tired and sad. We went for my daughter’s second birthday and have visited lots of aquariums so were hoping for great things.
That was not the case.
As an animal lover it really upset me. The enclosures were tiny and in need of serious upgrade. The water was cloudy and one part was actually leaking.
For a main attraction in London they need to do better, for the animals and the visitors. Figure it out!!

Shame no cafe
The aquarium is over two floors so don't think the bottom level is everything! We didn't realise this and had to rush through the next level because of time. The exhibits are set out very well with information panels and all the fish can be seen clearly because the tanks are so big. Unfortunately there is no café inside only vending machines with nowhere properly to sit - that's why I gave a 4 star rating. After standing and walking for a couple of hours you need a rest and a welcome coffee, but that's not possible and did spoilt it a bit for us as we got tired towards the end. The aquarium could make more money by providing a café and making the visit more comfortable for visitors. Having said that, we did find a quiet spot to sit and eat/drink something but families would find it difficult. For the price we paid for 2 people (£64) it was an expensive visit and especially as there isn't a café. We have visited lots of Sealife Aquariums around the country and this one was very big. Bear in mind that you go down to -2 to start your visit so its all underground and can be dark at times, but this doesn't affect seeing all the exhibits.

Amazing Family Fun...
We took 4 children and they loved every part of it, especially the part where they could touch sharks infertilised eggs and seeing the Penguins eating and the Sharks. We also got photos done.

Too many people and too hot
Very busy, very hot, and nowhere to leave luggage. I admit to being no marine biologist but I found myself thinking that there were a lot of creatures in relatively small spaces.
It also felt like the balance was wrong between ticket sales and visitor experience. It was far too busy, with people getting irritated because they couldn’t see the animals.

We currently do not have any luggage storage at our attraction. We do advise guests on our website that suitcases and large items of luggage are not allowed inside the attraction, though handbags and backpacks up to a 30litre capacity will be permitted. Lots to see but narrow tunnels and very crowded
Not cheap but fun for the kids.
Prepare for a lot of walking in a crowded place that is mostly a narrow tunnel. Lots of small kids running around, strollers with screaming kids and stressed parents.
The whole round took about 2 hours because at times it was a waiting line - people walking very slowly.
I saw only 5 small benches where one could sit and take a break. This place clearly needs more sitting places.
Apart from that it was fun. Fishes, turtles, pinguins, ants, spiders and what not. There was a lot to see.
There was a VR station where you could use VR glasses (not free), there was also a station to paint kids' faces by a professional artist (again not free). And the usual spots where you can take picture with fake background and pay tons of money.

Cruel
Honestly this place is awful! No way that any of these creatures, but especially the bigger ones such as penguins, sharks, crocodiles and turtles, should be living in these cramped underground conditions. It was depressing and I couldn’t wait to leave. As an aside it was too busy to see much even if I had wanted to, I decided within two minutes that it wasn’t for me but all the tanks and windows were filled with people so good luck seeing anything much. Seriously we should be doing better than this in 2026. Avoid!
