We booked this excursion while we were still in France. A private sedan driver came to pick us up to make the trip from Hurghada. The trip went well, however, if we were to do it again, we would stay overnight on site because we left the day before at 11 p.m. for a hot air balloon takeoff at 7 a.m.
Afterwards, we met our private guide Sabry, who was very kind and gave a perfect explanation of the areas visited.
The experience is incredible but so is the fatigue that comes with it.

An unforgettable day in Luxor – a sunrise balloon ride and the Valley of the Kings
An unforgettable day in Luxor – a sunrise balloon ride and the Valley of the Kings
Our trip to Luxor was one of the highlights of our holiday in Egypt and an experience we’ll remember for a long time. We booked a combined trip including a hot air balloon flight at sunrise and a visit to the Valley of the Kings, and overall it was absolutely worth it and excellent value for money.
It’s important to be aware that, if you’re travelling from outside Luxor, this is a very long day. We were picked up from Hurghada at around 11 pm the night before and driven to Luxor, where breakfast was provided before our balloon flight. Despite the early start, the balloon ride itself was incredible. Seeing the Valley of the Kings and the surrounding landscape from above as the sun rose was truly special. The flight was a really good length, giving us plenty of time to take in the views, and our pilot was informative and great fun. It was a genuine once-in-a-lifetime experience and something we’d wholeheartedly recommend.
After the balloon flight, there was a little initial confusion about the arrangements, but we were soon reunited with our driver and introduced to our guide, Professor Ahmed Elsisi. We’d booked what was advertised as a shared trip, but it turned out to be just the two of us, which made the experience feel much more personal and attentive.
Professor Ahmed Elsisi was fantastic. His knowledge of Egypt is extraordinary, and his passion for its history is infectious. He was engaging from the outset, spoke excellent English and had a great sense of humour. His explanations brought the history to life, and we really appreciated being able to ask questions and understand the finer details. He also struck a lovely balance between guiding us and giving us time to explore independently, so we never felt rushed or overwhelmed.
The Valley of the Kings itself was fascinating and well worth visiting. Having such a knowledgeable guide made a real difference to our understanding and appreciation of the site.
A special mention must also go to our driver, Krossos (David), who collected us late the previous evening and looked after us throughout what turned out to be an approximately 18-hour day. He clearly put a tremendous amount of effort into getting us safely there and back. Although the language barrier sometimes made communication difficult when our guide wasn’t with us, his thoughtfulness really stood out. On one occasion, he returned from a fuel stop with water and a snack for us, a small but genuinely lovely gesture that we hadn’t expected. Thank you, Krossos, for taking such good care of us.
Our only constructive feedback would be that clearer communication about the itinerary, timings and what to expect on arrival in Luxor would have improved the experience further. There were periods of waiting around that we hadn’t anticipated, and during the journey we encountered several checkpoints and occasions when police accompanied or supported us in convoy. Nothing untoward happened, but as visitors unfamiliar with these arrangements, a little explanation beforehand would have been reassuring. Knowing what to expect, particularly after such an early start, would make the day easier for future travellers.
We also appreciated the photographs taken by Professor Ahmed Elsisi throughout the day and look forward to receiving them, as they will be a wonderful way to remember such a special experience.
Overall, this was a fantastic trip that we’d recommend to anyone visiting Egypt who wants to experience Luxor’s extraordinary history. The sunrise balloon flight was breathtaking, the Valley of the Kings was fascinating, and Professor Ahmed Elsisi and Krossos (David) helped make the day memorable for all the right reasons. Thank you both for looking after us and giving us such a wonderful experience.

Wonderful day with our guide professor Ahmed Elsisi. He was very knowledgeable and a good laugh steering us thro the crowds to all the good bits. Good food in the restaurant too. Drivers careful and always there when we were ready to go. Perfect day. Highly recommended

Unexpected, totally worth it
The drivers did a really good job during this very long trip, although the communication could have been a little better at times.
The journey was quite long, and twice the driver had to wait for a police escort. We only found out what was happening afterwards while we were already on the road, so a little explanation beforehand would have been helpful.
The same happened when we arrived for the hot-air balloon ride. Our driver suddenly told us to get into another car, but we weren’t really sure why. They then disappeared with our bags, so for a while we had no idea whether we would get our belongings back after the balloon flight. After the flight, another van dropped us off for breakfast, and it was only once breakfast was being served that we saw our original driver again.
That was also where we met our tour guide, Ahmed Elsisi, and from that moment on the experience became fantastic. Ahmed speaks excellent English, has a great sense of humour and knows an incredible amount about Egyptian history. On top of that, he basically acts as your personal professional photographer throughout the day. He knows exactly where and how to take the best pictures, so you end up with amazing memories without even having to think about it.
And one little bonus tip: if you visit Medinet Habu, the temple of Ramesses III, and Ahmed starts asking you quiz questions, here are a few answers that might come in handy:
- Because Europeans can understand the history of the dynasties better.
- Because it is said to be the first place where the first Olympic Games were played.
- Because of the way the animals look.
- The stones were robbed and reused elsewhere.
- Hands, tongues and... Manhood.
Do those answers raise even more questions than they answer? Perfect. That is exactly why you should take the tour and let Ahmed explain the stories behind them.
So, if you have a spare day and want to make the absolute most of it, book this tour. It is a long day, but absolutely worth it. We had a great time!

Wonderful experience
A brilliant experience, unfortunately due to extreme heat our balloon ride was cancelled. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and took lots of pics which he sent to us. The boat trip down the Nile was fantastic and a pleasant relief from the intense heat. Please remember that you have to tip everyone, even the people at the tombs giving out cardboard to be used as fans. So if they offer to take a photo for you remember to tip. You may also have to pay to use the public toilets. Take plenty of water as it gets very very hot there. Overall a tick off my bucket list and a big recommendation to go

Amazing day
An excellent day at Valley of the King's. Prof Ahmed Elsisi was an excellent guide with excellent knowledge on all things Ancient Eygpt. Worth a visit but remember that it gets very very hot and if you let any of the staff at the tombs help you in any way they will expect a tip so take plenty of cash

A wonderful journey through the history of Egypt
A wonderful journey discovering the history of Egypt among the tombs and temples that hold millennia of history. Thanks to our guide, who conveys great passion and knowledge, we were able to admire and learn many details. The day started with an exhilarating hot air balloon ride followed by breakfast with typical food in a very picturesque location overlooking the Nile. The price was excellent for the entire tour, which included lunch and transfers from Hurghada. The drivers were also very punctual and kind!
I highly recommend this tour!!!!

Great!
Everything was perfect and magical; the only downside would be that they do not provide water during the execution. Otherwise, the hot air balloon flight was enchanting, and the passionate and engaging French-speaking guide. Thank you for this moment.

Big Thanks to the best tour guide - Samira.
Overall Experience - 9.5/10.
The communication from the tour company was excellent. They asked for the necessary details well in advance, replied to messages very quickly and provided updates constantly.
On the actual day, the drivers picked us up within the provided time frame. They were very kind and respectful, asking us where we’re from and how we were finding Egypt. They didn’t drive at crazy speeds and didn’t brake too harshly. One of the drivers even bought the whole minivan a water and juice each! The only ‘negative’ was that they kept turning the AC down when they felt like it, not knowing that their passengers were boiling in the back! 😂
The hot air ballon ride was amazing… Went straight from the minivan into the ballon, no waiting around whatsoever. Our pilot was witty, informative and friendly, showing us what we were looking at below and providing a bit of insight while being funny. We were in the sky for about 30 mins and had a very smooth landing.
Next was the actual tour of everything. We had previously been to Cairo so had expected a similar experience but we were wrong. It was so much better than expected! All thanks to our AMAZING tour guide, Samira. She truly made the whole day for us, we can’t sing her praises enough. She was funny, informative, kind, just the model tour guide. She provided facts on EVERYTHING, answered every single one of our questions in depth, made many jokes, everything you could want in a tour guide, she was that and more.
Lastly the restaurants we went to. We had breakfast and lunch in two different local restaurants, can’t say the food was amazing. Just similar to what you’d have in a hotel.
