ナックルズ山脈はスリランカ中央部にあり、マータレ県、キャンディ県を貫くように広がっている。 山脈は、山塊の西側にある一連の屈曲した褶曲とピークからその名を採っている。 キャンディ地区の特定の場所から眺めると握り拳の拳に似ているため。 初期のイギリスの測量士はナックルズという名前を割り当てた。 しかし、シンハラ人住民は伝統的にこの地域を霧の積もった山脈を意味するDumbara Kanduvetiyaと呼んでいた。 ナックルズ山地の森林面積は約21,000ヘクタール。 また、2010年に宣言された世界遺産中央高地の一部。 さらに標高1000mを超える35峰の優位性を背負う。 しかも標高1500mを超える峰が20もある。 ただし、中央高地の一部であり、南と東はマハウェリ川の谷で隔てられている。 同様に、西からマータレ谷によって。

Andrew picked us up in Kandy at 6.30 and drove us to the Knuckles Range, before entering , we had a cup of tea and some breakfast, and met the guide who was going to take us for the hike. After a short stop for the lunchboxes (which were delicious!) We were ready to enter the mountain trails. Our guide was very aware of our needs, whether it was waterbreaks, walking tempo or photoshooting. He was also very curious to ask about us and our homecountry aswell as telling a lot about the forests we were walking in!:) He had a good eye for spotting wildlife, and wild fauna: The sound of a monkey min. 200m away made him stop and spot it in a tree! We walked the intermediate route, which took us to two lovely waterfalls (one in which you can have a dip), as well as different types of forests. The trail was nice, also a little difficult, with narrow passes and wild fauna trying to overtake the path - but that only added to the charm. The Knuckles Range is profoundly beautiful and still offers true wilderness forest. We would definitely recommend going, and even more so with Andrew and the team of Soul of Lanka Tours!
