Very beautiful visit to the Pompidou Center

Cheap museum and almost no artwork. Just one exhibition room with horrifying works of art

I love museums and this one is incredibly boring and weird. Very odd and some disturbing pieces that don’t resemble art at all. Unfortunately you should not come here. Plenty of other incredible museums in Malaga.

The Centre Pompidou Málaga undoubtedly belongs to the cultural highlights of the city and has met my expectations as a demanding museum and exhibition visitor in many ways. The exhibition concept convinces with an extraordinary selection of modern and contemporary artworks that are presented in a way that is both intellectually stimulating and visually impressive. The curatorial quality is remarkable and manages to connect well-known positions in art history with surprising perspectives. Particularly noteworthy is the special exhibition, whose extraordinary paintings impressed with creativity, expressiveness, and originality. The works were carefully staged and offered numerous moments of reflection and discovery. For visitors with high expectations for art communication and exhibition design, this is a real gain. Unfortunately, the overall excellent impression at the end of the visit was marred by the behavior of an employee in the exit area. Although our personal belongings were still in the lockers, we were asked to leave the area by an older employee with unfriendly gestures and unprofessional body language. A respectful and service-oriented approach to guests should be a matter of course, especially in a renowned international cultural institution. The excellent quality of the exhibitions is beyond question. However, there is a noticeable need for improvement in customer orientation and visitor communication. Friendliness and professionalism should accompany the visitor experience until the very last moment. Overall, the Centre Pompidou Málaga remains highly recommendable due to its outstanding exhibitions. The artistic quality deserves the highest recognition. With a stronger focus on a lived service culture, the museum could better meet its international aspirations.

Not much to see there is more than a permanent collection

This museum is a worthwhile (alternative reality) break from being a tourist for an hour. While most of the art is clearly insane, the museum is well laid out and there is a good variety of exhibitions. The museum is exactly what it says it is. Attached is a priceless shovel hung on the wall. For better or worse, Duchamp’s landmark porcelain urinal piece wasn't on display.

We had been considering visiting the Centre for several years and finally had the opportunity to do so during a recent holiday. Unfortunately, the experience was quite disappointing as there was very little to see. After purchasing our tickets at the entrance, we were asked to show them on three separate occasions during our visit. While one check would be understandable, being stopped multiple times made us feel as though we were suspected of entering without paying. Despite the Centre being quiet, staff appeared to be closely monitoring us throughout. Overall, we felt unwelcome and under constant scrutiny, which made the experience uncomfortable rather than enjoyable. We ended up leaving after just 25 minutes, and in hindsight, the €18 admission fee felt like poor value.

During our visit to Málaga we stopped to see El Cubo, the famous colorful building that houses the Centre Pompidou Málaga, the first overseas location of the famous contemporary art museum in Paris. The museum offers a collection of modern and contemporary art, temporary exhibitions and cultural activities that are worth a visit, especially for those who love innovative and experimental art. The Cube’s location is great: it’s right next to Muelle 1, the harbor’s pedestrian area full of shops, bars and restaurants. It is very easy to reach on foot from the historic center, and walking among the boutiques and clubs with sea views makes the visit even more pleasant. El Cubo is a modern and colourful landmark in Málaga, perfect for contemporary art lovers and those who want to enjoy the port and the liveliness of Muelle 1. Access to the museum is free every Sunday from 16:00, otherwise it costs 7 euros
