I came to Shikanoshima on the last day of my trip to Fukuoka and used it. The weather was nice and I was able to go around the island on my bike, which felt really good.
The staff at the shop were very nice and kind to me! It was a lot of fun.
Not very interesting. Long bus trip.
We had one day in Fukuoka as a port of call on our Celebrity cruise. We walked from the cruise terminal to the local ferry terminal (approx 20 minutes) and took the ferry two stops to Shikanoshima Island. The local ferries are not frequent - approx every 90 minutes - so be careful to get the ferry schedule and allow time to get back to the ship. We had an absolutely wonderful time following the well-marked cycle path which shares the road with cars/motorcycles. There were places to easily stop along the way and food places (including hot dogs which was unexpected). The bikes are in very good condition and well maintained. After our bike ride, we had drinks in the cafe including a matcha latte (the best we had in Japan). Being on a cruise, there are always hundreds of people around and other ports in Japan were so busy, too. We loved having no crowds around us and a unique experience for $25.
A really nice bike rental / cafe (with beer) convenient from the port <100m and on the road that you take around the island. Great selection of bikes for all, very reasonable prices for rental and in the cafe but the staff make it - so nice and friendly and genuinely cannot do enough to ensure you have a great visit. Map / Cycle lights / helmets provided along with tips on where to stop based on what you want to see. The cycling is very easy on the circle route, with one steep part only.
The weather was nice and pleasant. The climb up Shiomi Park was hard, but the view was good and it was worth it.
