このウォーキング ツアーでは、英国東インド会社のトーマス スタンフォード ビングリー ラッフルズ卿がシンガポールに到着し、1819 年に英国の商館を設立し、1826 年に海峡入植地の一部となった時代に 200 年以上前に思いを馳せました。そして最終的には 1867 年に英国王室の独立した植民地となりました。 ジョージ王朝、ビクトリア朝、エドワード朝時代の保存状態の良い建造物や、植民地時代のシンガポールの素晴らしさを示すために復元された風格のあるネオクラシック様式の建物を訪れます。 私たちは、現代のシンガポールの発展に確実に重要な役割を果たした、綿密な都市計画、健全な法制度、優れた教育制度、強固なインフラストラクチャー、印象的な建築物などの遺産を残した旧植民地時代の巨匠たちに敬意を表します。 正午頃には、ボート キーのシンガポール川沿いでくつろいでランチを楽しみ、その後シビック ディストリクトとオールド ヨーロピアン タウンのツアーを再開します。

私たちの物語は、1819 年にイギリス人がシンガポールに商館を開設した経緯、初期のヨーロッパ人入植者が住居を建てた経緯、そして 1836 年に最初の英国国教会が建設された経緯から始まります。
現在シンガポール国立美術館を構成している 2 つの植民地時代の建物、すなわち旧市庁舎 (後に市庁舎と改名) と旧最高裁判所庁舎を探索します。 1945 年 9 月 12 日にルイス マウントバッテン卿が日本軍の降伏を受け入れた議場や、旧最高裁判所の留置場などに足を踏み入れましょう。

40 年以上離れて建てられた 2 つの建物、1 つは以前は市庁舎で、もう 1 つはビクトリア女王記念館でしたが、どのようにして 1 つの建物に統合されたのかをご覧ください。また、スタンフォード ラッフルズ卿のオリジナルの銅像を見て、サッカーとの関連性について学びましょう。

Ping was an amazing tour guide; excellent historian, great story teller, and very passionate about the history of her country. She took special time to keep us shaded and keep the tour very interesting throughout.

Ping was an outstanding guide. She remembered everyone’s names, came prepared with wet wipes and umbrellas, was energetic and enthusiastic and knew her subject backwards. She answered every question the group asked unhesitatingly and comprehensively. The route was well planned to make the most of shade and air-con. I learned heaps and am so pleased we did this tour.

We had a great time on this tour - Ping is an excellent guide and we learnt a lot about Singapore's history, and the life style of its people. She took us to lots of out of the way places you'd never know about without insider/local knowledge. Lunch was great, the tour was well planned out, and lots of interesting and relevant information. Enjoyed this tour so much we did another with Ping as our guide the next day.
