Plovdiv tour 10/8. We missed the first part of the tour due to the poor organization of the City tour company. Despite being at the starting point, the guide told us that we were not on the list. The company said that another guide would come to pick us up. In the end, after half an hour, the same guide came who told us that we were not on the list. The guide told us that we hadn't missed that much and that what she had said was written on the monument signs in case we wanted to see it on our own. During the tour, the guide would forget, hesitate, or make mistakes in her explanations. At the stops to see monuments, she continued walking without paying attention to see if the whole group was following her. The explanations were brief and uninteresting. Many of us tourists talked among ourselves about how poor the tour was. The agency, after we filed a complaint, simply sent us a link to an audio guide. The tour is not worth the money it costs for what they tell you and the poor management of the company.
The company implemented the schedule and the bus departed on time. The tour in Plovdiv lasted 2 hours with our guide Martin who was very informative. On the way back there was a long detour to villages (about 3 hours) due to an accident or fire on the national road. The air conditioning on the bus was not working properly, making our stay on it very uncomfortable. Overall it was a good trip.
It was not great at all. First of all, they didn’t have my name on the list and we had to wait until the end for the guide to call the office to double check to allow us to get in the bus and it was very hot inside this bus.
The tour was a lovely way to spend the day in Plovdiv. Sonia was a wonderful tour leader, and very friendly/approachable. She was well versed and knowledgeable in all aspects in the history of Plovdiv and Bulgarian history. Would highly recommend doing this tour if you’re weighing up between traveling to Plovdiv on your own, or taking a tour.
The trip to Plovdiv was 2 hours but I think was worth the trip It is the second oldest city in Bulgaria We spent most of the day in the old city I would caution anyone who has balance problems to not do this trip The cobble stone streets were hard to navigate Old town had some interesting brightly painted buildings and a Roman theater After old town you have time to shop the longest pedestrian street in the world
I booked the visit with an audio guide, but when I arrived at the location, no one knew who had the audio guides. They told me that I was supposed to have been given a map or the guide before boarding the bus, or otherwise I should just pay five euros extra per person to be included in the guided tour, which I did not want, as that is why I explicitly booked an audio guide to go at my own pace. In the end, we could not use the audio guide and had to look everything up on the Internet on our own.
A special thank you to Marlin, I would say a very good guide, today in Plovdiv, a nice and very skilled guy, and another thank you to Ornella, who is very knowledgeable, trip taken on July 31 to Rila and Boyana, thank you guys, you are wonderful.
The information about the meeting spot and what I was looking for was not great. I was quite early, but ended up feeling rushed once I figured out where the van was parked - admist many large busses, difficult to see, and not marked with the tour company as I was led to believe. Then there were 7 of us plus the driver so there was no room in the van. Our guide was a nice guy, but not a great tour guide. Too quiet and drowned out by the others around us; no stage presences; and too repetitive.
When it comes to going to the meeting point and boarding the buses, since there are several companies and different destinations, it gets a bit chaotic because people of different nationalities go on the same bus. The transfer was good, safe, and comfortable. The guided tour was very brief, to be honest. There wasn't much to tell beyond the history of Bulgaria and its political situation. Plovdiv is very pretty, very pleasant to walk around, although the streets are very cobblestoned, so you have to wear very comfortable footwear, and I think a visit with more free time would be much better. Being able to explore it at your own pace. For the price, however, it is already worth it just for the transfer.
Great tour with Martin! He was very knowledgeable and interesting in sharing the history of this ancient city.
