Wonderful experience! The food was absolutely amazing, some of the best food I've ever had, and I eat a lot of great food. Josefina was such a great host, we all loved hearing the history of Costa Rica's Caribbean coast and of her family. She was fun, funny, and an amazing chef. Equally great were the other 3 individuals who were there as well - everyone was so interesting and had such great travel stories to tell, and despite our vast differences (age, race, location, birthplace) we all had links to each other in one way or another which made for such a delightful night. Also much love to the kitties who said hi :) As others noted, this is more of a cooking demonstration/cultural experience versus a cooking class per se, but we got the recipe after we left, and we made the rice and beans for dinner. Granted, not nearly as good as the chef herself, but we were proud and excited to be able to relive our experience again at home. Definitely recommend! Good luck on your new kitchen Josefina, hope to see it when we return :)

We booked this cooking class expecting to chop and stir alongside the host, but it turned into something even better. Instead of cooking ourselves, we sat around Josefina's bar and watched her work, and it felt less like a class and more like being welcomed into a family member's home. Josefina was a wonderful host from start to finish. As she cooked, she shared tips and tricks along the way, but what really made the experience special was hearing her family's history and learning about Puerto Viejo itself. Its culture, its roots, and what makes the area so unique. It gave the whole evening a depth we weren't expecting. She sent us home with the recipes afterward, so we can try recreating the dishes ourselves. It was a genuinely wonderful, heartfelt experience, and one I would happily do all over again.

Fantastic evening; welcoming and comfortable, delicious food, good conversation and Josefina's fascinating stories about local culture, history, cooking methods, and daily life in Puerto Viejo. You won't regret it!

This was my second time taking a group to the cooking class, and each time, it has been fantastic! It's such a personal way to learn about the region, the culture, and have some out-of-this-world food! Both groups I've taken have been high school-aged, and they are always raving about the experience afterward. If you're wondering if you should give it a try, don't think twice!

Our experience with Josefina was absolutely wonderful. She taught us so much about Caribbean culture and the food while giving us the opportunity to learn so much about each other and the guests that shared the table with us. Josefina's cooking experience was amazing!!! She started out giving us the history about parts of Costa Rica... then we go into the cooking. the crowd size was just right. not too many people (a total of 6 people) There was plenty of food and well all left stuffed. I would recommend Josefina to anyone tho is on the fence about booking. She made us feel like we were right at home like an aunt was cooking for us. I must add... the admission fee was definitely work all the food we got and the length of time we stayed. Thank you Josefina!!!! :)

Be prepared for a wonderful short history lesson on the area along with some of the best food I have eaten!!! This is the second time I have visited Josephine, and I hope to return next year!!!!

This experience was like no other. It felt like an immersion into life as a Puerto Viejon native. I would definitely recommend to anyone coming to the area. Josephina was very informative and inviting and her cooking was amazing.

Last minute decision to book a cooking class, but so glad we did as it was a genuine highlight of our time in Puerto Viejo. The food was delicious and even better was chatting with Josefina about the history of Puerto Viejo and her own family history. Lovely and informal, we were so grateful to be welcomed into her home and to receive her recipes. Also great that she hosts guests, including solo women travellers, and we would love to stay at her accomodation if we ever go back to Puerto Viejo. We also loved her beautiful cats! Thank you!
