TLDR: Uncomfortable experience with an erratic instructor who made inappropriate comments. My partner and I arrived at 6pm and joined the rest of the group. At first the instructor just seemed a bit quirky and made offbeat comments, but I didn't think much of it. As the class went on, her behavior became increasingly erratic and unsettling. At one point she called the group "some crazy MFers." All the attendees were normal and calm. She apologized throughout the class for not being set up properly, saying it was because "people came at different times," though everyone had arrived right around 6. She left the room multiple times for 5 minutes at a time. She said she was going to clean and sanitize items for us, but did not take anything with her or bring anything back. Some items were not clean from the beginning, and the instructor was eating whipped cream by licking it off her fingers. I question how sanitary everything was. With 20 minutes remaining, I asked if she had a specific ingredient. She said I didn't have time to make anything else because we were already over time. When I noted there were 20 minutes left, she said “you shouldn't be rushing it, I put in all the hard work, you should appreciate it. People need to appreciate what I do." She made other unsettling comments including “people should be scared. Everything that you think I could do... I will." I walked away to tell my partner I was very uncomfortable. She stared at me from across the room and then made a comment to the group stating that not everyone had paid for the class. Everyone showed her their proof of payment. She then said we were "a lot" and that she needed to remove herself from the situation. She went to a separate room for the rest of the class. She returned 20 minutes later, when the class was actually ending, and said, "thanks for coming, almost all of you were great." She made other strange comments towards others as we were leaving. I only had 2 drinks. I would not recommend this class to anybody.

If you’re even remotely interested in cocktails, the Mad Scientist Mixology Class is an experience you shouldn’t miss. What I loved most was how hands-on and interactive the class was. They provide recipe reference cards if you want guidance, but they also encourage you to experiment, get creative, and build cocktails your own way in their “lab.” It felt less like a class and more like being a bartender for the day. The selection of ingredients was incredible—from an extensive range of spirits, liqueurs, and mixers to an impressive collection of dehydrated fruits, herbs, and spices. Learning how to use these ingredients to infuse flavor into cocktails was fascinating, and the smoking techniques they demonstrated added another level of creativity to the experience. A special shoutout to Jen, who was friendly, knowledgeable, and made the entire session fun and approachable, whether you were a beginner or an experienced cocktail enthusiast. Another thing I really appreciated is that they offer both cocktail and mocktail options, making the experience enjoyable for everyone. They also host private events and team-building sessions at office locations (where permitted), which would make for such a fun and unique work event. I can’t wait to do this again. Whether you’re planning a date night, a get-together with friends, or a team outing, this is an experience I’d wholeheartedly recommend.

Get ready for a fantastic adventure in new flavors and surprising combinations. Jen is a superior host and lets you explore all the crazy combos you can think of. I am a novice cocktail maker and had success. My husband is a true aficionado and discovered new things! So good for all experience levels.

This was so much fun. Will definitely do again. Perfect for someone who already knows how to make a lot of cocktails and would like free range to experiment with unusual ingredients and techniques.

I had an amazing, fun, educational time learning about organic chemistry, combinations, the history of cocktails, and mingling with other couples as we learned how to make non-alcoholic beverages. Excited to return and make more love potions with my other half soon! Will write an updated revoew experience.... stay tuned!

This workshop was way more fun than any cocktail class I’ve taken! You throw on a lab coat, step into a playful little “drink lab,” and experiment your way to a delicious cocktail or mocktail. The instructor is super encouraging and makes the whole experience feel creative rather than rigid. Great ambiance, great ingredients, great vibe. Highly recommend for a group activity or a memorable night out in Seattle!

Had a great time. You get a lab coat and access this woody loft space to mix drinks however you want. I’m sober, but the experience was pretty flippin rad nonetheless. t’s hands-on and creative, not a strict class where you just watch someone else. Lot of options when it came to drinks, essences, bitters, et cetera. The instructor was helpful without hovering, and a couple of my drinks were mindblowingly good. May have to round up the Sobears and come back here. Raar.

I had an absolute blast at this “mad scientist” cocktail workshop! The moment I walked into the Greenfire Loft, I was handed a lab coat and instantly felt like I’d stepped into a playful little laboratory for adults. The space is gorgeous—tucked above Melrose Market with great people-watching and a cozy lounge vibe. The instructor set the tone perfectly: supportive, fun, and ready to nudge you just far enough out of your comfort zone. There are printed recipes you can follow… but honestly, the real magic is experimenting. I loved mixing ingredients, tasting as I went, and getting tips whenever I was stuck or wanted to be bolder. It’s creative chaos in the best way, and the tools and ingredients felt really thoughtfully curated. My finished drink turned out delicious, and lounging in a vintage butterfly chair while sipping it was the perfect finish. Whether you’re planning a team activity, a birthday, or just want something unique to do in Seattle, this workshop is such a standout. I left feeling like both a chemist and a bartender.

The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the opportunity to try smoking your drinks with different wood chips added a unique twist. Highly recommended for a fun evening out with friends or family.

We had a great time creating and sharing our mocktails. I loved having some recommendations to choose from along with being able to mix and match from a huge selection of ingredients including teas, dehyrdrated fruits, and edible glitter in the ambiance of a comfortable, warm, unique environment of Melrose Market. The host had a lot of knowledge, recommendations, and made sure everyone felt comfortable trying new things in the cool loft surroundings. This mocktail workshop was a great environment to spend quality time with friends. Love the commitment to the community space. Can't wait to come back with my colleagues!
