Keith was an excellent driver and informative on the area and Sterling Castle.

Our tour with Stewart Tours went perfectly. We met our historian/navigator/driver/entertainer, Keith the Magnificent at the designated location. Actually he found us, undoubtedly looking lost, and escorted us to the comfortable coach. I looked forward to this particular journey outside of Edinburgh for months. The landscape on this route is flanked by glacially formed mountains that rise behind lush green pastures speckled with a great number of sheep and forests that feel primordial. Along the route, Keith weaves together stories of the geological formation of the island 480 million years ago when two different tectonic plates collided, the Highlands created from a hard volcanic rock merged with the other which is a soft limestone. The geology of the islands had everything to do with how the flora and fauna evolved of course but also the people and cultures. Traveling a few million years forward, Keith ties together the many threads that tell of the bravery, loyalty, deceit and treachery that is the history of this awesome land. Scotland. The tiny villages, winding, narrow roads and breathtaking views are at every turn. We went on a day with bright blue skies, drizzle and light wind which was just perfection. The town of Stirling grew up at the feet of the infamous Castle and is worth the trip to drive through it. Fantastic architecture and landscaping. The approach to the castle proper is very steep so Keith gave wise advice to us; take the castle guided tour, interact with the tour guides and the characters played costumed actors. Address the seamstress to the Royals and you’re suddenly engaged in conversation with a completely believable person who has studied and expertly embodied the actual role, adding historically accurate details like embroidery was considered work that only men could do though occasionally, a particularly ambitious woman such as herself would be granted the title by the Court. but alas, never the wages. And so forth throughout our time at the Stirling Castle stop. Loch Lomand- well the true origin of the traditional tune we all have heard is epic and tragic. Keith will pull this thread into the story and cap it off by playing a less bouncy rendition. Gorgeous area. A resort town. The Kelpies- I’m so glad this stop was included despite the advice of some. When the sun broke through the moving clouds the sculptures gleam and seem to breathe. The surrounding park wasn’t in the original plans/funding but when the Kelpies turned into a new attraction, one was created. Nothing fancy per se but I must have given ear scritches and head kisses to a dozen dogs. Very dog positive. I’ve said enough. Excellent schedule. You won’t feel rushed. Small business is Locally owned and operated. Do it. Now.

What a great day! Keith did a phenomenal job of personalizing the tour and made sure we didn’t miss a thing. There was plenty of time for breaks and lunch and we never felt rushed. Growing up in the area gives Keith a step up on others. His passion for his country, countrymen and history shines through and really made the tour one of the most enjoyable we’ve ever taken.

Our guide Deborah was very funny. I love her dry sense of humor. She had everyone on the bus laughing. She was very informative as well. We really enjoyed our day with her.

We had a great time on our tour with Chris. We got to see the Kelpies, Stirling, some cute Highland coos, and beautiful Loch Lomond, and we’re so happy we decided to take this tour. The bus was clean and comfortable, and Chris was friendly and made the whole day really enjoyable. He told great stories along the way that made the places we were visiting even more interesting, and he played some really cool music during the drive, which was a fun touch.
