The tour we recently took in Rhodes, Greece as the experience fell significantly short of what was advertised and what we reasonably expected. One of the primary reasons we booked this tour was to learn about the history and significance of the Acropolis of Lindos. Unfortunately, upon exiting the bus, our guide, I believe her name is Stephanie, or Stephie), did not take a head count or determine who intended to particpate in the walk to the Acropolis. My family, (husband, sister, and cousin) were standing near the back of the bus and after speaking briefly, we discovered that the guide had already left and was walking well ahead of the group. Because she made no effort to ensure everyone was together, we were unable to catch up and lost sight of her in the crowded area. As a result, we missed the entire narrative and historical explanation of this important site, which was one of the main reasons we chose this excursion. We were extremely disappointed to lose the educational portion of the tour. Several other aspects of the tour were unsatisfactory: -The wine, honey, and olive oil tasting stop was poorly organized. There were only a small number of wine bottles available, and no explanation was provided regarding the wines or their characteristics. Because our group was near the end of the line, most popular one of the selections had already run out by the time we reach the tasting area, and we had little opportunity to participate. -The greek pottery portion of the stop consisted merely of being directed into a retail shop. No information or educational presentation about Greek pottery was provided. and the guide did not accompany the group inside or explain what we were viewing. It felt more like a shopping stop than a cultural experience. -The restroom facilities were unacceptable. There were only two restrooms serving a large number of people (there were two large bus loads of tourists). The facilities were filthy, lacked toilet paper and soap and wastewater overflowed outside the building, creating unsanitary conditions where guests were standing in line. The walking portion through Rhodes Old Town felt rushed, and once again the guide made little effort to keep the group together or ensure all participants could follow comfortably. -Although headsets were provided, it was often difficult to hear the guide because she did not consistently speak directly into the microphone. -Given the hot weather conditions, there was no opportunity to obtain water during portions of the tour, nor was water available on the bus. Adequate hydration is important, particularly for older travelers and during extended walking tours in high temperatures. Overall the tour did not provide the historical, educational, and organized experience that was advertised. Missing the Acropolis narrative alone substantially reduced the value of the excursion, and the additional issues described contributed to our dissatisfaction.
We regret to hear that the tour did not meet your expectations. Please allow us to address the concerns raised: 1. The Acropolis was never included as part of the tour. It is clearly listed among the tour exclusions. Guests are welcome to explore it optionally during their free time in Lindos. Please note that access involves approximately 300 steps, and no elevator is available. 2. All scheduled stops, including the pottery workshop and Rhodes Old Town, were provided in full accordance with the advertised itinerary. A complimentary tasting may be offered at the pottery workshop; however, we cannot accept responsibility for services or facilities provided by third parties, including restrooms and water supplies. 3. The full tour duration was delivered as advertised.Headsets were provided and were fully operational throughout the tour. Had you informed your guide of any issue, an additional headset could have been provided, as we always carry spares just in case 4. Your refund request is the only one received among the 132 cruise passengers served in Rhodes on May 19, including the other members of your group. 5. Based on the above facts, all of which can be verified, your refund request has been carefully reviewed and respectfully declined by Viator. For future bookings, we strongly recommend basing your expectations on the advertised itinerary, inclusions, and exclusions rather than on assumptions about what may be included in the activity. Safe travels.
Very good tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable and engaging, and our driver was accommodating to those with physical limitations. Offered an informative trip to Lindos with a stop at a pottery workshop, and then a walk through the Medieval city. It was very easy to find the tour guide once we left the cruise ship and she made sure we returned on time.
It was a proper day, pick up in the morning, back in the evening, you're definitely getting your money's worth time wise. Our guide explained all the stuff but in a way that wasn't boring at all, more like telling a story.
Our guide didn't show us the must sees like Lindos, Acropolis but took us deeper into the island's soul. We wandered through lesser known villages where locals greeted us with Yasou and offered tiny cups of Strong Greek coffee.
This region has something different from other places. I love it, special thanks to miss Laura and our driver max they both give us there best and I'll definitely recommend it.
We found Rhodes to be very interesting - especially enjoyed the old fortress We did have difficulty understanding our guide and often in hearing what she had to say as it was a large group
Thank you for your feedback and for your kind remarks about our island. We are sorry to learn that you experienced difficulties hearing your guide. In the travel industry, a group of 17 is considered relatively small. According to the guidelines set by Greek Public Health, we are required to use headsets for groups of 30 or more. We are particularly surprised to hear that you had issues understanding your guide. Maria, who is both half Greek and half British, is a fully licensed guide who has been working as a tour guide for over 24 years. We suspect that your disappointment and the lower rating for the tour may stem from our denial of your cancellation and refund request, which was submitted less than 24 hours before the tour's start time and was declined in accordance with Viator's cancellation policy. Safe travels!
Great tour guide. Wonderful atmosphere of the people of Rhodes (compared to other stops on our cruise). Our only flaw - This was the only Viator tour that had our party of five, share the guide with other groups. However the van had one less seat than all the folks in total. As a result a group of four had to sit in the back row (made for only three people). They were behind us and unfortunately their complaints among themselves and our sympathy for their situation distracted us from the on board information from the guide. But the guide was brilliant and the historical sites were great. Great hospitality at the pottery center and the winery. I would absolutely recommend this tour.
Thank you for your positive feedback. Regarding the group of four you mentioned, we regret to hear they disrupted your experience by making it difficult to hear the guide in the morning. Please note that the Mercedes Sprinter Minibus features 4 seats in the back row, not 3. It appears the behavior of this particular group was part of an attempt to secure a refund, among other efforts. Initially, on meeting in the port, they falsely claimed to the guide that they had booked a private tour, unwilling to share it with other participants, despite having reserved the same tour as you. Sadly, while many travelers seek to learn and experience new cultures, a few individuals aim to exploit such opportunities. Fortunately, the situation improved in an hour, when our manager warned them that further disturbances would result in their return to the ship at their own expense via taxi. We're delighted to hear you enjoyed the remainder of your tour in Rhodes. Warmest regards from sunny Greece!
Tour guide Diana did a great job despite her getting food poisoned from her night out with friends. I feel the tour can be longer. We was pickup at hotel at 9.55am and the tour end around 4pm. Call me greedy but I was expecting 7 to 8 hours tour. Overall the van is comfortable and we were handed a bottle water, a banana and a sandwich so there are no lunch stop in the middle. Diana’s makes the tour fun by telling us story and history of the island and just wish they can include one more stop or let us have an hour in the old city to walk around before concluding the tour.
Thank you for your valuable feedback and for acknowledging Diana's great effort despite her challenges. We're glad to hear that the tour was enjoyable and educational. Regarding the tour duration, we aim to balance a comprehensive experience with practical constraints. The tour is designed to last approximately 6 hours. We understand your desire for a longer tour, however, the schedule is particularly influenced by the needs of our guests from cruise ships, many of whom had earlier departure times on that day. Additionally, we do include an hour of free time in both Lindos and the Old Town, which many guests find suitable for a lunch break or exploring. While we currently can't extend the time in the Old Town further due to these time constraints, we appreciate your suggestion and will consider it for future planning. We're also pleased to hear that the transportation was comfortable and snacks were provided, as we strive to ensure a pleasant journey for all our guests. Your input is invaluable in helping us improve our tours, and we hope to have the opportunity to host you again with an even better experience.
I booked this tour via Viator several months in advance of our trip, rather than going through the cruise line. This particular excursion had received glowing reviews, and we were particularly attracted to its small-group format over the typical big-bus tour. We were not disappointed! The entire experience was seamless, from the booking process all the way through to the tour's conclusion. However, what truly made this tour exceptional was our guide, Maria. Her extensive knowledge, quick wit, and relaxed demeanor—coupled with her excellent command of English—made this one of the most memorable tours we've ever experienced. As a well-traveled group of eight, we were all extremely pleased with Maria, our driver Kiriazis, and the well-curated itinerary. We would wholeheartedly recommend this tour company and would rate Maria with an astounding 10 out of 5 stars!
Shore excursions organized by cruise lines can often be expensive and cumbersome, characterized by overcrowded buses, limited time for photo opportunities, simplistic itineraries, and overly touristy experiences. In contrast, our tour with Joanna was a breath of fresh air. Her English was as proficient as mine, and she provided us with ample time to take photos, shop, and enjoy leisurely breaks for coffee and snacks. Joanna patiently and passionately answered our myriad questions without making us feel rushed. She was a veritable walking encyclopedia on Greek history. Furthermore, she knew all the best routes to avoid crowds in both Lindos and the Old Town, so we never had to waste time standing in line. The wine tasting in the Old Town was the proverbial cherry on top—featuring delicious wines, a hospitable host, and a genuine Greek restaurant that has been operating since ancient times. The tour was not only informative but also intimate, with only 15 participants, which facilitated easy interaction among us all. We wholeheartedly recommend this tour to any fellow cruisers visiting Rhodes
