We had such a lovely time doing the cooking class with Chef Naima. It was more than just cooking—we learned how some local dishes are prepared, helped with the different steps, and enjoyed eating what we made together. Naima was patient, friendly, and made the whole experience feel relaxed and fun. A really nice way to experience Tanzanian food and culture.

Do not miss it if you come to experience life, people and culture. Everything was very good, local and wonderful. We had better time during our visit in the food market, local small shopping market for ingredients, lessons for the local cuisine and lunch together. This is the only experience I can recommend for the ones who want a local experience, nothing is tourist and you will feel more interact with people. Our instructor and guide are very knowledgeable about local and very helpful and kind and they are very open to share with us their culture. 100% of my tour you should book in Arusha.
We booked a cooking experience with friends and it turned out to be one of the most enjoyable things we did during our time in Arusha. What made it special was that the experience started with a visit to the local food market before we even began cooking. Walking through the market was an experience on its own. We saw so many different fruits, vegetables, spices and other local ingredients that we had not seen before. Our guide explained what different foods were used for and helped us understand more about the ingredients that are part of everyday Tanzanian cooking. We also enjoyed seeing the atmosphere of the market, watching people doing their daily shopping and speaking with some of the local sellers. After choosing the ingredients, we continued to the cooking class. It was much more hands-on than we expected. Instead of simply watching someone prepare the food, we were involved in the different steps ourselves. We learned how some of the ingredients were prepared, how the spices were combined, and some of the traditional methods used to cook the dishes. Cooking together with our friends made the experience even more fun. There was plenty of laughing, a few small mistakes in the kitchen, and lots of tasting along the way! Our host was patient and explained everything clearly, including the background of the dishes and why certain ingredients are commonly used in Tanzanian homes. The best part, of course, was sitting down together at the end and eating the food we had prepared. It felt much more satisfying because we had visited the market, selected the ingredients and then prepared the meal ourselves. We really enjoyed that the experience was not only about food. It gave us a chance to see a more everyday side of Arusha, learn about local ingredients and spend relaxed time with our friends. It was a fun, informative and very personal experience that we would happily recommend to anyone who wants to experience Tanzanian food and culture in a different way.
Our cooking class with Tanzania Songbirds Safaris was easily one of our favorite experiences in Tanzania. It started with a fun, guided walk through the local market to pick out fresh veggies, fruits, and spices. Back at the kitchen, it was completely hands-on. We cooked traditional dishes like chapati, ugali, mchicha, and pilau over charcoal grills and gas rings. The food turned out incredible, but the best part was the warm, welcoming hospitality—sitting down to share the meal together made us feel right at home. If you want a real, authentic taste of local culture, don't miss this! Highly recommend!
We had a wonderful time during our visit to the market, and our chef Naima was wonderful and very attentive to our needs. I definitely recommend this experience all was perfect from the market, kitchen, and we enjoyed the perfect meals. 100% I recommend!
We couldn't expect such an excellent local experience, we learned so much about Tanzania Cuisine, the market was pretty nice and had very fresh ingredients. Our guide and chef took us to the marketing tour and we enjoyed our time so much and more than our expectations,. We went to the local kitchen, and prepared all the Tanzania meals With our chef who was the best instructor also. I couldn't recommend it enough but only I can say do this if you have time in Arusha and you will learn much from more locals and know the food culture and how the local market works.
very experienced guide, we really like her vibe. It was nice to be able to make some local dishes ourselves with her. recommend if you are at Arusha for some extra days, and if you are a cook for the household ;)
Our family had a wonderful time during the Traditional Tanzania Cooking Class and Food Market Tour in September. Visiting the local market, choosing fresh ingredients, and then learning to prepare traditional Tanzanian dishes with our chef, Naima, was such a fun and authentic experience. We enjoyed every moment and would definitely recommend it to other families visiting Arusha.
I could not recommend it highly enough! It was a fantastic experience in Arusha, we planned it for our lunch and we started this lesson in the morning when Mage brought us to the central local market of Arusha, we had a short tour there and learned Tanzanian Spices. We went shopping for ingredients too in other markets and then we went to Mage Kitchen and made 3 different dishes with a plate of local vegetables. You get to balance time to get invited in the new culture and experience. I definitely recommend this tour.
We had an excellent experience with our chef, Zayna. Zayna and the driver, Isra, picked us up at our hotel and took us to the market. We bought all fresh produce from the “Mama market” section to support the hard working women of Arusha. Zayna taught us how to make fresh coconut milk from a coconut, helped us make flaky chapati bread , and we made the tastiest pilau with beef shoulder meat and a garam masala flavored rice. We also made the most mouthwatering vegetable mix I’ve ever tasted. Zayna was a wonderful host, a fabulous chef, and we truly admired how hard she worked to educate her kids.
