Posting for other tourist as this was the worst experience in Tokyo. Completely confusing ticket system. When buying ticket at a self serve kiosk machine, my visa was not accepted even though it clearly shows Visa accepted sign on the machine. Fine, I go to the actual kiosk with a human. The woman helping me spoke fine English so this isn’t a language barrier issue. I clearly told her I need to buy one way ticket to narita terminal 1 and pay with card. No problem—she sells me a ticket. Ticket to me (who clearly doesn’t use Tokyo railway on a regular) looks completely normal: has my train info, seat info etc. Once I arrive at the terminal 1 exit I cannot exit!!! The gate police jerk *grabs* me when I try to go through and without explaining keeps pointing at a picture of some pass I don’t have and yelling in Japanese. Now I’m clearly a white foreign chick with luggage trying to go catch my flight, so perhaps explain better what you need me to do and do not touch me. Finally he shoved me to a counter where someone does speak some English and that dude tells me I have to pay additional 1300 yen to exit. Buttttt I cannot pay it by credit card and need to “go to the atm and get cash” what in the actual f. FYI nearest ATM has a 10,000 minimum. This is all while obviously trying to get to my flight on time. I feel in general any question I asked was met with hostility and dismissal. Hate absolutely hate anything pertaining to raijways/subway system in Tokyo and this skyliner was the worst
