Dwarka-Somnath-Diu-Junagadh Trip: A Personal Account with Budget and Timing

This account details a recent trip to Dwarka, Somnath, Diu, and Junagadh, highlighting our experiences, transportation costs, and the time spent at various locations. Day 1: Arriving in Ahmedabad and Exploring the City We arrived in Ahmedabad by train early in the morning. After freshening up and grabbing breakfast, we hired an auto for a local sightseeing tour. The auto took us to several key landmarks for a fixed price of Rs. 800, including the Jain Mandir, Swaminarayan Mandir, Vallabhbhai Patel Memorial, Sabarmati Ashram, the architecturally stunning Atal Bridge, and finally, the serene Kankaria Lake. We enjoyed a delicious lunch at Purohit Restaurant (highly recommended) before heading to the Kankaria Lake. Since our train to Dwarka departed at 6 PM, we relaxed by the lake until 4 PM. Unfortunately, boating and the toy train were unavailable due to a recent incident. Finally, we boarded the Okha Vande Bharat Express for Dwarka, arriving a bit later than expected at 1 AM the next day. Day 2: Unveiling the Wonders of Dwarka Upon reaching Dwarka, we hired an auto for a comprehensive sightseeing tour (Rs. 1300). Our first stop was the iconic Dwarkadhish Temple, where we offered prayers and captured some memorable photos outside the temple (from 7 AM to 9 AM). Next, we visited Gopi Talav, a sacred pond, where we participated in prayers and enjoyed refreshing sugarcane juice and coconut water (approximately 45 minutes). We continued our journey to the first Jyotirlinga, Nageshwar. Here, we offered worship, admired the grand statue of Shiva, and took some pictures (approximately 45 minutes). Since the boat services to Beyt Dwarka were unavailable, we crossed over via the impressive Atal Setu bridge. We explored the island temple, offered prayers, and took photos, spending a leisurely 1-2 hours there. On our return journey, we captured some scenic pictures on the Atal Setu. Our final stop was the Rukmani Temple, where we offered prayers and enjoyed some refreshments before returning to the Dwarka bus stop. After lunch, we boarded a bus to Somnath, reaching our destination at 9 PM. We took an auto to our hotel and settled in for the night, planning to rise early for Somnath darshan the next day. Day 3: Exploring Somnath and the Enchanting Diu We started a little later than planned but managed to reach the Somnath Temple for darshan by 8 AM, emerging around 10 AM. After breakfast, we booked a cab for a combined sightseeing tour of Somnath, Diu, Junagadh, and finally, a drop-off in Ahmedabad (Rs. 11,000). Our Somnath exploration included the holy Triveni Sangam, the revered Gita Mandir, the ancient Hinlaz Mataji Temple, and the intricately carved Ram Darbar. We then embarked on a 1-1.5 hour journey to the beautiful island of Diu. Here, we visited the historic Ins Khukri Memorial, the majestic Diu Fort, the serene Gyaneshwar Temple, a charming church, and finally, the Nagoa Beach. Unfortunately, due to the monsoon season, the sea level was high, and the beach was closed, preventing us from enjoying water sports. We wrapped up our Diu exploration by 7 PM and returned to Somnath for dinner. (Disappointingly, the Somnath light show was also cancelled that day.) Day 4: Unveiling Junagadh's Treasures and Returning Home The next day, we called our driver at 7 AM and finished any remaining Somnath sightseeing before heading to Junagadh. We enjoyed a satisfying breakfast on the way. Our first stop in Junagadh was the Swaminarayan Temple, followed by Amba Mataji Temple, which we reached via a breathtaking ropeway ride (Rs. 630 for a two-way trip). The surrounding landscape and the ropeway journey itself were truly mesmerizing. We then continued to the Bhavnath Temple and the serene Damodar Kund. Since we had already visited a zoo in Ahmedabad, we opted to skip the Junagadh Zoo. By 2 PM, we had completed our Junagadh exploration and began our journey back to Ahmedabad, stopping for lunch along the way. We reached Ahmedabad by 9:30 PM, boarded our bus promptly, and finally headed back home.
