We recently did the Mud Volcano experience in Cartagena, and overall it was a unique and fun excursion. Our tour guide, Samuel, was excellent, friendly, professional, and very helpful throughout the tour. One thing to be aware of is that many of the services are paid for at the end of the experience. Once you finish and start heading out, multiple people will ask for payment in either pesos or U.S. dollars. It can be confusing because many do not have change available, and some prices may not be clearly explained upfront. We were a group of three, and there was some confusion about the charges at the end. Samuel stepped in and helped resolve the situation, which we appreciated. As for the photos, we personally did not find them worth the extra cost. The photographers take the pictures they want, and the quality was not what we expected. If photos are important to you, you may want to do it yourself. Our advice: bring small bills, clarify costs before accepting any additional services, and enjoy the experience for what it is. The mud volcano itself is definitely something different and memorable when visiting Cartagena.

The Totumo Mud Volcano was definitely one of the most unique experiences I had in Cartagena! I honestly didn’t know what to expect, but floating in that warm, thick volcanic mud was such a fun experience. My skin felt incredibly soft afterward, and it was definitely something I had never experienced before. The experience is very rustic and authentic, so don’t expect a luxury spa. The stairs can be slippery, and there are locals who offer massages, photos, and help washing the mud off afterward. Bring cash for tips and wear shoes with good traction. Overall, I’m glad I did it. It was fun, different, and definitely one of those travel experiences that gives you a story to tell! I would absolutely recommend the Totumo Mud Volcano if you’re visiting Cartagena. Book with this tour company!

Samuel was the most excellent host. The mud volcano was quite a unique experience! Our family of four enjoyed our time at the volcano and also at Coco Beach Club for lunch and a relaxing two hours beside the pool prior to returning back to our hotel. Be advised that the services by the locals at the volcano are 10,000 cop per service per person in your group. For example, if you have someone take your picture and you are a family of four, it will cost you 40,000 cop in cash.

This trip was very fun and exciting. The only scary part was going down the stairs. I am glad the host was organized. Lunch was really good time spent at the pool was relaxing.

This was an extremely memorable day for my mother and I. Our guide stayed with us the entire day and gave a clear run down on what to expect for day. From how much to tip the locals who were working the volcano ,even being a buffer to make sure we weren’t being overcharged, to what lunch and the pool day(dangerous beach conditions)would consist of. She was a gem and made a huge impact on how great the day went. This is such a great deal, make sure you book!
