A must see show!

I was not prepared for the emotional ride that this show took me on. It was incredible from start to finish. We sat about 8 rows back and in the middle. It was perfect. It looks like from other reviews, you do not want to be in the front row. The cast is so incredibly talented with their acting and singing.

It's not up there with the great musicals.

I know this won a lot of awards and people love it. I didn't. I love musicals, but this was so predictable and seemed contrived. I felt I heard all the words before and the story was like a bad imitation of West Side story. I know it's supposed to be about teens but I never felt real sympathy for them. Maybe for the older brother but, again, predictable and contrived. You can guess what happens most of the way through. The voices were very good and so was the dancing, but I was wishing it was over long before the final curtain. I did enjoy MJ the Musical and anything Andrew Lloyd Weber. I didn't love this one. The ticket was a gift and I appreciate the thought, but for those looking for a musical experience for a lot of money, this isn't it.

Incredible show!

Incredible show! The acting, theatrics, stage, music, etc. was all way above expectations. We sat in the second balcony towards the bottom and seats were spectacular.

Excellent

The Outsiders certainly lives up to the hype! The story is captivating, the choreography is magnificent, and the acting is superb! The music was good but not particularly memorable. It was deep, parts were sad, parts were funny - it was a truly well rounded good performance. As a tip: The Outsiders offers rush tickets if you purchase them at the box office. It opens at 12:00pm on Sundays and 10:00am on weekdays. We went at opening time and got two rush tickets next to each other despite 20 or so people ahead of us. General rush tickets are $45, and they have a few "30 under 30" tickets in which people under 30 can get tickets for $30. Highly recommended as an affordable option for a good broadway show.

Sit as close as you can, and hold on!

We caught a Tuesday evening performance of The Outsiders during a recent trip to NYC, and it absolutely lives up to the hype. First off — this is a replacement cast, and if you’re wondering whether it still delivers, the answer is a clear yes. The current cast, led by Noah Ricketts as Ponyboy, is outstanding. I didn’t see the original Broadway cast, but at no point did I feel like anything was missing. Everyone felt perfectly cast, and the performances were strong across the board. If you know the story, it follows Ponyboy Curtis, a kid growing up on the wrong side of the tracks in Tulsa. It’s a coming-of-age story with love, loss, and a lot of heart. If you don’t know the story, it still works incredibly well as a standalone piece of theater. What really stood out to me is that this show is both emotionally grounded and a full Broadway spectacle. The staging is incredible — the entire stage is covered in what looks like gravel (actually rubber pellets), and it becomes part of the choreography, fight scenes, and overall movement. There’s also one of the most impressive rain effects I’ve ever seen on stage — a full, practical downpour during a major scene that’s just stunning. The music is exactly what you want from modern Broadway — big, soaring vocals, strong ballads, and songs that really carry the emotional weight of the story. A few standout performances: Sequoiia as Dallas Winston — absolute powerhouse on stage Sutton James Kaylor as Sodapop — brings a lot of heart and charm Emma Pittman as Cherry — strong, classic Broadway presence The ensemble overall is fantastic, and there’s a great energy to the show — it feels young, alive, and very physical. Pro tip: Rush tickets are worth it. We got in line around 7am for a 10am box office open and were first in line. They offer a special “Ponyboy seat” (you have to ask for it), which is actually used by the actor during the first few minutes of the show — then you’re escorted back to it for the rest of the performance. It’s a really unique experience and well worth it at ~$79. Most other rush seats are partial view, but honestly, even those are great. I was in the second row and probably missed less than 5% of the show — incredible value compared to standard ticket prices. Also worth noting: the cast came out to stage door after and was generous with time, signing and chatting — a really nice touch. Bottom line: If you get the chance to see The Outsiders, do it. It’s a powerful, beautifully staged, modern Broadway show that balances heart and spectacle really well.

A Must see Play

A play that is essential to experience on Broadway, The Outsiders explores the conflict between teenage gangs, the Greasers and the Socials, set in Oklahoma.

Boring, would have left early!

Theatre is beautiful. Outsiders was boring. People say they loved it caus' they paid too much money to see it! The play only has one background. The rain and blood fight has been overhyped. Oh, and only one guy takes his shirt off. In case that's why you wanted to go... 😜

Put this show on your must see list while on Broadway in NYC!

"The Outsiders" was on my friend & my priority list of shows to see while in Manhattan this past May 2025, even before it won the 2024 Tony Award for Best Musical. Both of us had read this book many times growing up, & the story is translated so well as a musical that it did not lose all of the touching, heartfelt points of the novel. With excellent vocals, great staging, set design, choreography & an excellent score, I highly recommend seeing this show even if you have never read the book. Excellent work!

Horrified and Soaked in Blood – $1000 Seats Ruined by Unannounced On-Stage Effects

I attended The Outsiders with high hopes and left completely horrified—not by the plot, but by what happened to us during the show. We paid nearly $1000 for front-row tickets, expecting an immersive theatrical experience, not a gruesome accident that left us drenched in fake blood, our clothes permanently stained, and the rest of the show physically uncomfortable and emotionally upsetting. During a completely blacked-out scene, with no visual warning or staging cues, what felt like a bucket of prop blood was thrown on us. This was not a light mist or even a dramatic splash—it was a direct hit. We were left covered. We had to sit through the entire second half of the show soaked in red, with stained clothes, and utterly distracted from any enjoyment the performance might have offered. It completely ruined the evening. What makes this worse is the lack of any prior warning. The ticket merely mentioned the possibility of “light rain or pellets”—which we took seriously. We even proactively asked an usher before the show if we should purchase ponchos. They reassured us that “only a little water might hit the front row.” At no point were we told that we’d be splashed with red liquid resembling blood in the dark, unable to protect ourselves or our clothing. For a Broadway production—particularly one at this price point—this was a shocking lapse in both communication and consideration for the audience. We weren’t alone in our reaction. Multiple patrons looked visibly disturbed and were checking their clothes under the house lights, many with similar damage. The production owes front-row audience members a clear disclaimer, the option for proper protection, and frankly, an apology. This went far beyond “immersive” or “interactive.” It was invasive and careless. Broadway has always been a place of magic and transformation—but this experience felt like an ambush.
