Becyase this depends on nature, this is a bit of a pot luck option, but they know what they are doing and have spotters checking the horizon. In the end we say a pair of hump back whales. The trip out into the bay was also really good.
Our captain got us safely out to see where we followed a humpback whale for quite a while. The whale came close to the boat which was really exciting. Once it was time to head back we had a nice warm cabin to stay in until we docked!
There are several firms offering whale watching and the other boats went to the same area as ours. Looking at the other boats, I was glad we were on Amelia Rose. Two of the others were very big, ours was smaller and less crowded. The other was a rib, whereby the passengers had to don waterproof gear and life jackets, and could not move from their seats. All the others bobbed around on the waves, our boat was very stable. So, if I did whale watching in Reykjavik again, I would choose this your again. If you go, wrap up with layers... It is very chilly on deck!
Awesome day for a whale watch! Saw lots of humpbacks and a minke. Saw a humpback breach for the first time and another whacking his tail multiple times. Boat was clean and comfortable. Operator was knowledgeable. Well done.
Great whale watching experience! The guide was very knowledgeable and we found Whales quickly and saw several of them. The boat is really nice too. They have blankets on board but dress accordingly because there is normally a breeze.
It was colder on the water, so bring layers! The guides didn’t share much info, so definitely ask questions if you have them. She happily answered, but maybe they just weren’t in the script.
The weather worked out for this trip but the ocean was extremely rough. Many people were sick and made for a less than pleasant journey. They did find a couple of whales which was nice but I would probably skip this one just because I didn’t handle the waves all that well. They did provide complimentary Dramamine.
Excellent experience, we saw a humpback and minky whales. The boat was great and comfortable, we were lucky that it was not crowded - other boats were huge and so many people on board so our experience was much nicer. Hot drinks and snacks available on board,
The tour guide did a good job. I think it would have been more enjoyable on a sunny day, which is difficult to expect in Iceland. We were tired after a long week of activities, which is why we selected this tour. The other tours provided more bang for the buck.
We saw a minke whale, porpoise, and humpback! I would say the only negative part is that there was not enough seating for all the people on the boat.
