We did the private tour with Ioannis and he was simply AMAZING. He was so knowledgeable and engaging. We learned so much from him.

Ioannis was FANTASTIC! Having an actual archaeologist privately guide us through Akrotiri made such an enormous difference. His knowledge and passion for the site were incredible. He explained the architecture, history and everyday lives of the people who lived there in a way that made this ancient city suddenly feel real. Instead of just walking around looking at ruins, we actually understood what we were seeing and why it mattered. He was engaging, approachable and clearly loves what he does. We walked away completely fascinated by Akrotiri and talking about everything we had learned. If you’re making the trip to Akrotiri, having Ioannis guide you is 100% worth it. Such a memorable experience!

Absolutely wonderful experience. Iannis was very knowledgable. It was obvious his passion for archeology. His ability to not only explain the ruins but to get us to understand the human aspect of people during that time period was wonderful. Highly recommended!

Giannis was perfect. He is actually an archeologist at the ruins, so knows first hand the history and details. He was so knowledgeable, sharing details you can’t learn from reading signs, and he had a passion for the narrative that is unique and infectious. We have been to Pompeii and Herculaneum in the past, amongst other historical sites, but the age of these ruins was amazing. Centuries before Pompeii the people of Akrotiri had running water, international commerce, and an effective government. Just amazing overall. You won’t regret it.

Ioannis was extremely knowledgeable and interesting! I highly recommend booking with him and not just walkthrough on your own. I loved everything I learned, and can't wait to return in the future when they start digging other sites, or Ioannis proves his thesis. Helpful hint, book an afternoon tour, which Ioannis said is a better time due to less crowds. Because the site is covered, it is not too hot inside, thank goodness! A bonus, there are very cute doggies to pet.

We thoroughly enjoyed having Ioannis guide us through the Archaeological site. He was knowledgable and passionate and did a wonderful job of giving both an overview for context and explaining the details. We were lucky to have the site mainly to ourselves in the early afternoon, and because it is completely covered, sun wasn't an issue. He mentioned that it tends to be much busier in the mornings. Because he is one of the archeologists who has worked on the site, he was able to give an insider perspective and to explain why the site hasn't been fully excavated. It was nice to be able to support a working archeologist through booking this tour!

Our guide Giannis was knowledgeable and engaging. He easily captured the attention of our 3 boys (6, 9 and 12), explained in relatable terms, was patient and answered their many questions.

When we first got to the gate we looked for our guide, but he didn't have a sign or any identifying information to let us know it was him. Our entry to the site was not included in the costly price of the short informational we received. While the archeologist was knowledgeable, my friend and I were rushed through the sight, barely having time to question anything, no time to look at anything but what he rushed us through. We originally had a time for 12:30, but our guide changed it to 2:30, while the site closed at 3:30. We had absolutely no time to look around at a reasonable pace. We were rushed out due to closing, leaving us no time to look at the gift shop, either. Very disappointing, very expensive for what we received.

Giannis is extremely knowledgeable and gave us a well informed, energetically entertaining tour through Akrotiri’s archaeological insights. Highly recommend!
