We had the best day, we joined the 10.30am guided tour. Our guide “with the very long name” 😜 made the tour so much fun and was very knowledgeable. Topped up with a yummy snack before trying some wood carving! We then enjoyed a mud bath followed by a soak in the hot sulphar pools overlooking the geothermal valley. So glad I didn’t book anything else that day, we spent the whole day here! Our guide, the check-in staff and the ladies serving us lunch were all so friendly and helpful 🤗

Complimentary pick-up and drop-off service available from the center of Rotorua. The water temperature of the mud hot spring was slightly lukewarm, and it was not enough in the rainy weather, so I was grateful for the slightly higher temperature. Cold water hot springs were too cold to enter because the mud hot springs did not warm us.

It was an amazing day. The walk is really lovely. The waterfall at the end of a very easily accessible walk is beautiful. There are some benches so you can take a picnic. The views of the mudpools are great. The Maori carving experience is fun. The hotpools are awesome and a MUST do very relaxing. Take old swimwear and old clothing then throw out when you leave as the Sulphur makes everything stink. If you are travelling and not from New Zealand it could ruin your luggage so well worth bringing old swimwear. You can rent it there. An awesome couple of hours here.

This was one of the highlights of my Auckland trip. Place was unreal, beautiful. Mudbath and pool also were super relaxing and super brightening.

If you have the chance to go on a guided walking tour definitely do it! The guide shared amazing stories of his family and Māori culture, I really came away from it with a new look on life! Afterwards we did the mud pools and geothermal pools. Soo relaxing and could instantly feel the benefits in my skin and mood :) Highly recommend, they really know how to deliver a full experience here

Excellent experience. The walk and Maori carving experience was awesome. Its easy to pay on arrival as its never fully booked. Using the app ? Check it's in NZ dollars first as it was displayed in US dollars and ended up costing us more than we thought ! But went anyway and thoroughly enjoyed it.

It is a must to do experience if you are in Rotorua! Hell Gate has the best staff, nature thermo environment, mud pool and hot springs!

We enjoyed our time at Hell's gate. We arrived 30 minutes before our tour was due to start. We did a quick circuit of the thermal pools to take photos so we could focus on the information of the guided tour. The smell was there but not too bad. We learnt a lot. Following the tour we had fun making carvings and then headed to the spa. The mud bath and spa experience was fantastic. Well managed for health and safety but not detracting from the relaxation. Luckily it is off season now so not too crowded. A fantastic day.

This was such a fun experience - I’d highly recommend if you’re after something a bit different as this combines the traditional hot pools with a mud bath. I’d also really recommend joining the tour around the site as it was so interesting. Just don’t wear any precious jewellery or clothing as the sulphur smells really strong!

Great experience at the mud pools and geothermal experience today! We especially enjoyed the chance to do some wood carving!
