I booked a day trip to Varanasi and Sarnath via Viator. I had a very good experience touring these two ancient places. My guide, Ashish Kapoor, was well-versed with the places as he was born and brought up in Varanasi. I booked Guide + Driver with a customised itinerary. My itinerary included: Morning Aarti (5am IST), Morning Boat ride (2500/- INR; private only me and my guide), Sarnath tour, Rest for 1 hr, Old city walk and street food famous in Varanasi, and lastly Evening Aarti. Tips: 1)Pay 200/- INR and sit comfortably on a chair very close to the one performing an Aarti to get good pictures and videos. 2) For indian, never buy packages including Tickets and rides via any company, as those rates are for foreigners, and you will be paying higher rates. That's why I never purchase any package like that and pay on the spot for any activities. 3) Book a hotel or hostel near Assi Ghat. To date, there are only 5 places where Aarti is being performed. The older Dashashwamedh Ghat is very crowded. Always book your rooms closer to the Ghats, as traffic can be heavy, so you can even walk to these spots without a vehicle. 4) If you are a solo traveller, book a dormitory, as hotel prices near any Ghats are high due to being a hot spot for tourism. N.B: Peak time to visit Varanasi is Oct- March. During this time, the rate might go high. For example, after negotiation and repeated requests, I got it at 2500 INR, but during peak times, it might go up to 4000-5000 INR. So, better book through the app if you are not sure. I have booked many solo tours on Viator. This app is very reliable and provides the best driver and guide based on ratings. I highly recommend this app. I hope this will help future travellers and that they have a safe and happy journey.

I highly recommend get a guide to explain all the details in Varanasi, starting with the places, the ceremony and the culture. Also, it can be very tricky to move around the alleys. I was very happy with my guide, he helped me in every step and always solving doubts about the hindi culture
