Dear Femaletraveller1987, We take any allegation of racism extremely seriously. For precisely that reason, such an accusation should also be made responsibly and supported by facts. According to your review, the basis for describing our guide as “racist” appears to be that he spoke Portuguese with Portuguese guests during the tour. Portuguese is naturally spoken between Portuguese people in Portugal, and the fact that our guide interacted with other guests in their own language does not constitute discriminatory behaviour towards you or anyone else. The guide who operated your tour on 17 August is one of our most experienced professionals and has welcomed thousands of visitors from all over the world. His work has generated well over 1,500 five-star Google reviews from guests of many different nationalities and backgrounds. While no guide or company is beyond criticism, describing him publicly as racist is an exceptionally serious allegation, and nothing stated in your review provides evidence that you were treated differently because of your race or nationality. We must also correct the other factual assertions in your review. The photographs advertising this experience show the actual type of boat used for the tour and accurately represent the experience booked. We therefore cannot identify what supposedly “fake” photographs you are referring to. Life jackets are both visible in our imagery and covered by the conditions applicable to the activity. Their use is a legal safety requirement, not something concealed from guests after booking. Furthermore, the life jackets carried on our vessels are regulated safety equipment. They are subject to the applicable mandatory inspections and certification by the competent maritime authorities. Describing required safety equipment as “ugly” does not make the advertising misleading, nor does it say anything about whether that equipment complies with the required safety standards. Likewise, the boat does not have the “cramped seats” suggested in your review. It is fitted with cushioned seating specifically designed for passenger comfort. What is particularly difficult to reconcile with the severity of your account is that, during the experience, you did not raise these alleged problems with the guide. Had you genuinely found the condition of the boat, seating or safety equipment unacceptable before departure, you could have brought this immediately to our attention and allowed us the opportunity to address your concerns. Instead, you completed the experience and subsequently presented these matters online as evidence of an “absolutely terrible” service. We welcome criticism when an experience falls short of a guest's expectations, and we will always investigate legitimate complaints. What we cannot accept without challenge are statements portraying our advertising as fake or, much more seriously, branding a member of our team as racist merely on the basis described in this review.
