One thing I didn’t expect from Yala was how much I would enjoy the quiet parts of the safari. Of course, seeing animals was the main reason we went, but sitting in the jeep with nothing happening for a few minutes and just looking around the park was actually really nice. Then things would suddenly change. We saw deer walking across the road, elephants in the distance, buffalo near the water, monkeys, crocodiles and loads of birds. We even got a leopard sighting, which was obviously the big highlight. But honestly, I enjoyed the smaller moments just as much because everything felt so natural. Our driver was really easygoing and helpful. He didn’t keep rushing around trying to find something every second. He knew when to slow down, where to look and when to just let us enjoy the moment. The vehicle was comfortable too, which made the long safari much easier. I came back thinking the best part wasn’t one particular animal. It was the whole experience of being somewhere so different from our normal day-to-day life. A bit of waiting, a bit of excitement, lots of unexpected sightings and plenty of laughs along the way.
