Ahmed was our driver and local guide throughout the day. He was patient, warm, and clearly knew the island inside and out — sharing the history and culture of Zanzibar in a way that kept even our kids engaged. Traveling with children, finding clean restrooms can be a real challenge, and Ahmed went out of his way to make sure we always had access to adequate facilities whenever the kids needed them. He also made sure I was able to stop and pray Friday prayer at a local masjid, which I really appreciated. For the walking portion of our Stone Town tour, we had Mohammed Lato as our guide, and he was outstanding. His knowledge of Stone Town’s history — from the sultanate era to the slave trade sites to the winding alleyways — was thorough and articulately delivered. He was just as attentive to our children’s needs, helping us find restrooms along the route without ever breaking the flow of an excellent tour. Both Ahmed and Mohammed were true professionals: knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely caring toward our family.
