Our experience on the Dolphin cruise in Halong Bay was disappointing and fell far short of what was advertised as a “luxury” experience. To start, the ship itself did not resemble the photos shown during booking. The reality felt far more basic and overcrowded than expected. The pool deck, which appeared in photos to offer relaxing poolside loungers, instead had stools occupying those spaces—completely changing the atmosphere and comfort level. The biggest issue, however, was capacity. The ship can hold up to 600 passengers, and our cruise had approximately 580 people onboard. This created a consistently overcrowded environment that made it difficult to relax or enjoy the amenities. Nowhere was this more apparent than during the buffet lunch, which closed as early as 11:45 AM. The dining area was so congested that it was nearly impossible to move between tables, making the experience stressful rather than enjoyable. The jacuzzi was another letdown. It wasn’t heated at all and felt no different from the pool temperature. Additionally, it was largely taken over by families using it as a small children’s pool, with constant splashing that made it impractical for adults seeking a more relaxing experience. Overall, this cruise felt oversold and underdelivered. With better crowd management and more accurate representation in its marketing, it could be improved—but in its current state, it does not meet the expectations of a luxury Halong Bay experience.
