A fantastic experience with an 8-10 km hike - up and down mountains. T.J is a super guide with humor and exciting knowledge about nature and history. We were a group of 7 - got to know each other. The trip was well organized and you felt in good hands. There was challenging terrain with paths up and down mountains - there was forest and live roads and a beach... all elements were represented. The trip ended with a sunset on the mountaintop. Then tapas outdoors. T.J surprised us all with the most delicious tapas, including homemade treats - the best tapas I have ever had. Incredibly where things came from - thanks for a lovely day.

Thanks to TJ, we had an unforgettable day on the western Algarve yesterday! The route was challenging, but he was very considerate of all the fellow travelers and we explored impressive places together. After a beautiful sunset, we enjoyed delicious Portuguese tapas at a picnic together. Almost all of it was handmade and a total delight!

It was an unforgettable, beautiful day. The hike with T.J. on the west coast was indescribably beautiful; he guided us super well and explained a lot about the west coast of Portugal, the vegetation, animals, cliffs, history, etc.... It was an adventure, sometimes you had to push yourself a bit to get there, but the subsequent view was the reward, powerful impressions, we are thrilled. Something this beautiful will always stay in our memories. And the crowning finale was eating together on a cliff at sunset. Absolutely recommended! Thanks T.J. 🙏😃

This tour is an absolutely unbeatable experience, and this is coming from someone who is not much of an outdoorswoman! TJ clearly put a lot of thought into making this journey memorable, unique, and paced right for all members of the group. The day started off with introductions amongst the group and some orientation of where we would be hiking, with some background on the region. We did two hikes, the first of which was more difficult, and the second of which included the sunset tapas. The first hike was quite challenging (for me, at least), but TJ both encouraged and pushed us to test our own limits, the reward being incredible views and a huge sense of accomplishment. He made sure to pause regularly for breathers, during which he either shared background on the local ecosystem, or just let us pause to take in the scenery. Truly a thoughtful approach to outdoor leadership. I was also impressed with how well prepared TJ was for all parts of this hike. He brought extra backpacks, water, and even jackets for those of us that did not believe how cold the coast would get (BELIEVE him y'all, that temp drop was like 30°F from the midday heat). The tapas were extremely generously portioned, with some leftovers after we were all stuffed, and all locally sourced or handmade by the guide. Even a lifelong olive hater (me) couldn't get enough of his olive dip. All in all, if you are young and healthy, or old and really healthy, this is a must do experience during your trip to the Algarve!

I had a wonderful hiking experience along the magnificent Algarve coastline with West Coast Adventure Company! Our guides, TJ and Trevin, are deeply passionate, caring, and highly knowledgeable about the land and its vibrant history. As an inexperienced hiker, I was nervous, but they made me feel safe and well taken care of throughout our daily hikes. We had a remarkable sunset tapas dinner at the end of our tour. This was truly an extraordinary journey!

I highly recommend West Coast Adventures if you’re visiting Lagos in Algarve, Portugal. It’s a once in a lifetime experience hiking the rugged southwest coast and TJ makes it special by imparting his knowledge of the history, nature and culture of the area. Finishing with a sunset picnic was the icing on the top of a great adventure!

We did the classic west coast hike and sunset picnic and had a wonderful time. Tj did a great job sharing all things relating to birds, plants, and the geology of the Costa Vicentina reserve with our group of birders, bio nerds and regular folk. He is a low key but very experienced guide whose commitment to meeting the needs of our varied group and providing an exceptional experience came through loud and clear. He adjusted on the fly, leading us through spectacular and varied terrain along the coast, and prepared a delightful sunset picnic to top off a memorable day. If you want an experience a bit off the beaten path with someone invested in sharing their love for the area, then Tj is your person.

Even though I was challenged by this hike, it was so worth it. Definitely bring hiking boots. Amazing dinner afterwards

This was such an awesome unique experience! Got to see views 99% of tourist will never see. Although read the description carefully because there is some physicality to this adventure! It may challenge you, but the challenge is 100% worth it. To end the day with a sunset and culinary picnic! Everything was just phenomenal

Not only did TJ plan a great hike full of beautiful views, he filled it with terrific history and insight. His love of nature and the Algarve is infectious. Our sunset vista was the best one on the trip (much better than Sagres) and the camaraderie over a shared meal with the other hikers was a perfect way to end the day. I couldn't recommend this excursion enough!
