Fransisco was fantastic! He has a great love of surfing and he wants to share that with his students. Our 3 surfers had a great time and look forward to surfing again.

When you fall off realize you are in shallow water. Lol. It was a great experience. The guides were great!

This is an amazing but intense experience!! First time surfing and it was very tough but the instructors are super supportive and encouraging and we both made it on the board a few times! Javier is so sweet and made the experience incredible and safe! We will definitely be surfing here again!

I’ve taken surf lessons in Hawaii, San Diego and the Outer Banks. These were the best. Our group had three completely new surfers and three who had some time in the water. All of us learned and grew our skills. Everyone rode waves. And - important!! No foamies. Real surf boards. You’ll walk away with the skills to ride beginner level surf (rent a board) anywhere in the world. No lie you’ll be in surf bootcamp. If you want to ride - this is it.

Surfing school was great! We had no idea how to surf and by the end, we were getting up on the boards!

My brother and I booked a beginner surfing lesson with Jaco Surf School because we were excited to try surfing. Unfortunately, our experience was extremely unpleasant due to the conduct of our instructor, Francisco. Rather than providing supportive instruction for beginners, his approach felt aggressive and degrading. During the land instruction he repeatedly made us do numerous practice repetitions without breaks while speaking in an intimidating tone. At multiple points he demanded we answer “who controls you?”, which felt unnecessarily confrontational for a recreational lesson. Once in the water, the behavior escalated. He frequently yelled at us, calling us “babies” and saying that our “mommy isn’t here to save you.” As first-time surfers, we expected encouragement and guidance, not insults or intimidation. He also criticized us for things outside our control. For example, he yelled at us for walking too slowly toward the waves even though the current was pulling us back toward shore. When we caught waves and were carried down the beach by the current, he then yelled at us for being too far away from him. We were also criticized for how we got on the surfboard — we were standing in water up to our armpits and he wanted us to get up on the board without grabbing it, but then criticized us for being too slow when trying to stand up. Because of this approach, what should have been a fun beginner experience became stressful and uncomfortable. We chose this activity because of its strong reviews, which appear to reflect experiences with other instructors. Unfortunately, our experience with Francisco was very different, and I noticed at least one other review describing a similar issue. Had we known the instruction style would involve yelling and insults, we would not have booked this experience. We requested a refund after the experience, but it was declined.

Legendary guide. Full of energy. And I was able to catch waves within a few minutes. Would love to be back one day again. Mastul mastul!
