You have to keep a live QR code visible on your phone. We did not have the option to use any paper ticket or put it in our Apple wallet because the QR code needs to refresh approximately every five minutes. In addition, a number of the subway lines in Tokyo are actually JR train lines. We did not find this user-friendly or financially effective.
