honestly the city is not pretty nor does it have anything interesting to visit, it is very dirty and neglected. it is a point to visit Lake Titicaca but nothing more. the journey is long and the nearby city (juliaca) which is where the airport is, is dreadful, dirty and horrible

Great
You can never go wrong with a private tour. We went to a lot of places and did the parts of the tour i wanted. There is museum and the cathedral visit but i really was not interested. We went to the look out point for a panoramic view of the city and the lake at night. When to the shaman marketplace, when downtown, and finishes up walking the pedestrian area around the cathedral. He even gave me some suggestions about places to eat.The guide was very knowledgable and accomodating. I will recomend this tour if you want to know about Puno itself not just the lake

canceled our paid tour the night before
The operator wrote to us the night before to tell us that the guide had become intoxicated and night could fulfill the tour at contracted and paid times (11am). As your new schedule (4pm onwards) did not fit our plans, we expected refund of our money but had to contact TripAdvisor Customer Service

En primer lugar, le ofrecemos disculpas por la cancelación del día anterior. Tuvimos una emergencia médica con nuestro guía que se intoxicó por comer en una isla del Titicaca, y aunque le ofrecimos la mejor alternativa que teníamos disponible en ese momento con otro guía, lastimosamente no le sirvió.
En cuanto al reembolso, se le escribió a Viator, y normalmente ellos demoran 2-3 días para el reembolso respectivo, es por eso que no lo vio reflejado inmediatamente. De todas maneras tomamos nota de su experiencia para mejorar nuestra comunicación y asegurarnos de que, en situaciones excepcionales como esta, el proceso sea claro y rápido para nuestros clientes.

If you REALLY want to learn about Puño and Peru!!
Our guide made walking around in Puno beyond the ordinary. Samual was informative and friendly. We discussed things about Puno and Peru that we might not have learned. We stopped at the local markets and also tried some street vendors. All in all we had an excellent experience.

City of Southern Peru
The town of Puno is located in southern Peru next to Lake Titicaca. I advise you to visit Saint Charles Borromeo Cathedral.
There is a lot of restaurant near the cathedral.
