Incredible trip/tour led and operated by 1st Nations guides. We saw beautiful scenery and lots of whales. All from a safe and respectful distance. We learned history in an engaging manner. Guide and Captain both great. Boat comfortable

A very nice 4-hour trip in the morning. Seen often with respect for nature from the principles of Homalco. I can recommend this tour to everyone.
What a brilliant experience! Johnny and Tyler were fantastic guides - both were friendly, knowledgeable and professional. I was impressed with their respect and understanding of the humpback whales and orcas - unlike other tour boats nearby (which were too close). This 4 hour tour exceeded my expectations - we saw so many whales - it was amazing! And an added bonus was Johnny sharing photos with us afterwards. I would definitely recommend Homalco Wildlife Tours to anyone considering whale watching.

I had a wonderful Whale Watching tour with Morgan as the captain and a young guide on August 18th at 1 pm. Both were really nice, helpful and always answering m questions. As a person with walking disabilities, the boat was very suitable for me, I could easily get on board and walk around. From any seat in the boat, one had a wonderful view on the sea and the mountains and of course the whales !

Homalco are great. They use smaller boats so it feels more personal. The boats are immaculate, with good toilet facilities and coffee/snacks. They really respect the wildlife and make sure they don’t get too close. We did afternoon whale watching and saw 4 humpbacks, sea lions, seals and bald eagles. Morgan and Penny were both excellent and very informative. They are even going to email us photos they took with a good camera. Excellent service and I’d highly recommend.
What a memorable experience! Our Skipper Guy and tour guide Denali generously shared their knowledge of the local culture and wildlife. They provided an incredible immersive experience whilst respecting these beautiful mammals. We were fortunate to experience a variety of whale behaviours including breaching, tail flapping and humpbacks interacting with each other. Thank you for enabling us to feel connected with these magnificent animals.
We had fantastic and very memorable afternoon, spotting at least 10 hump backs and 2 orcas. Our Captain was Guy and our guide, Denai. They enthusiastically shared their wealth of knowledge and respect of the local environment and wildlife. We fully recommend this tour, we will be returning with friends next year.
We did our second tour with Homalco this weekend, and it was another amazing experience! Our captain, Guy, was confident and safe with the vessel, which kept everyone comfortable throughout the trip. His ability to navigate the rougher waters and get us to our destination quickly was impressive. It was clear that he knew exactly how to maneuver the boat to avoid shaking us up too much. He kept a respectful distance from the whales, yet still made sure we had the best possible viewing experience. Our guide, Solana, was just as amazing. She kept everyone well informed about what was happening and was attentive to everyone on board. She answered loads of questions about the local area and wildlife, and made sure everyone had a great experience. Homalco once again showed that wildlife welfare is a priority on their tours. Guy and Solana did everything they could to keep both the whales and passengers safe throughout the day. It was an incredible tour, and we’ll definitely be back again!

The company very graciously allowed us to switch dates to avoid rain. The day was beautiful and the backdrop was incredible. We saw humpbacks, sea lions and eagles. The boat was new and very comfortable. We loved the small group - only 12 people. I did not give it 5 stars for the following drawbacks: The company insinuates that you may see orcas. Nothing was said about Orcas until I asked and then I was told it was rare. The cruise is a very comfortable speed, but a bit disappointing to hear that other boats are watching a mother and calf and breaching humpbacks and there is no sense of urgency to get to those opportunities. Out of respect for the whales, this boat does not get very close. Other tours seemed to get closer. Overall a great trip. I wish the company had managed the expectations a bit more.
Hi There, Thanks for the review and the constructive feedback. We are glad that you had an enjoyable day on the water with us in this beautiful setting. Hopefully we can clarify a few things mentioned in your review. While Orcas are indeed sighted in these waters, they are much more mobile than the humpbacks. Meaning sightings are a little less consistent than the humpbacks, but not necessarily 'rare'. We will work with our guides to better set those expectations in the future. In terms of urgency getting to other reports such as breaching humpbacks, there is no standard amount of time for which humpbacks breach. Our skippers go based on their experience and judgement so that they aren't sacrificing other potential sightings only to be 'late for the party' on other reports. We do recognize that some organizations and individual boat operators will at times break safe viewing distance protocols, but as proud members of the North Island Marine Mammal Stewardship Association (NIMMSA), we are very careful to maintain the appropriate distances from the wildlife so as to not disturb them in their natural environment.
