Very disappointing experience with Viator for shuttle service in Costa Rica. I booked a shuttle in the morning, and within a few hours our flight changed. I emailed Viator back less than 12 hours after booking to adjust the reservation, and they charged me a $90 last-minute change fee. I paid it because I felt like I had no real choice, but that fee was unreasonable. What really confirmed my frustration was the return trip. I skipped Viator, contacted a local shuttle service directly while I was in Costa Rica, and booked a private shuttle for the exact same distance back to the airport for only $90 total. Viator had charged well over three times that amount. To me, this feels like a company taking advantage of travelers who do not yet know the local options, and then adding insult to injury when plans change for reasons outside their control. I understand there may be fees for changes, but this was excessive. I will not book with Viator again, and I would recommend that others look for local transportation providers before paying Viator’s markup.

Our driver met us at the airport exit holding a sign with our names, Gabe’s us ice-cold coconut water when we got to the vehicle and provided a lot of interesting information about Costa Rica on the drive to Tamarindo. It was a great experience to start off our Costa Rican vacation!
