Exploring Inishmore island was great. The day we went was very windy so make sure to wear layers. And the ship ride was very rough. I recommend eating a light breakfast with some bread to help avoid sea sickness. Highly recommend this trip!
BE WARNED! Aran island is too large to walk. They sell you a bike hire for the day at big prices. We walked 6 miles on the island and saw nothing impressive. You have to bike, so get ready to open your wallet one more time.
Myself and my Twin celebrated our 25th Birthday on a tour to Aran Islands and Cliffs of Moher Day Cruise. It was the best tour we have been on for a long while. The staff onboard were nothing short of exceptional! In particular, Adhan and Cookie. We nearly had as much fun on this tour than on Aran Islands itself. Would not hesitate in recommending this Day Cruise, and tour to Aran Islands. The Island is a magical experience and it feels good to step off the treadmill for a while...Two happy Birthday Girls! Thanks guys :)
We had the most amazing day all thanks to Aran Ferries who took us to Inis Mor and then the Cliffs on the way back. The Captain and his crew were so helpful and patient, and really cared about passing on their knowledge to us. The day was beautiful and they let us spend ages in front of the Cliffs so we were able to take in the beauty and the majesty of these extraordinary cliffs. The colours, the history, everything. It was a fantastic crossing, there and back. A big thank you to the Captain and his crew.
Great experience! Beautiful views as you cruise out to the Aran Islands and then past the Cliffs of Moher. We saw dolphins and huge jellyfish. Cruise was much smoother than I anticipated. We sat inside on the way to Aran Islands and up top on the way back so that we’d have a good view of the Cliffs of Moher. Definitely wear a rain jacket with a hood. Crew was very nice. Would definitely recommend this when visiting Ireland.
We had a beautiful day exploring the Aran Islands and seeing the majestic Cliffs of Mohr. The staff was extremely kind and helpful!
Tip #1: Take some kind of motion sickness pill before you board the ship. Bonine, Dramamine, or whatever your favorite is. They only work if you take them an hour or so before departure. While a beautiful day, the sea was choppy. They handed out barf bags and lots of people were using them. Again, plan ahead and take something. We highly recommend this experience, but it's only part of the puzzle. This picks you up around 9:30 on the Galway docks, drops you off on Inishmore Island (the largest of the Aran Islands) around 11:00, and then picks you up around 3:30. It then takes you past another Aran Island to the Cliffs of Moher, which you need to see to experience. You return around 6:00. Tip #2: The ferries hold a couple of hundred people in theater-type seating on two decks. If where you sit matters, you might want to show up a bit early to take your pick. For what it's worth, particularly as you approach the Cliffs of Moher, people gather on the deck in back to take photos -- it's relatively easy to move around. Tip #3: You probably want to book a tour of the island itself ahead of time. They rent bicycles/electric bicycles, but having a guide really helps you to understand the island and see the best sights. We took the off-road adventure, which was outstanding. There are other tours, including horse-drawn carriage tours. Our tour was fully booked (we booked ahead) and its worth looking into what suits your taste and budget. For what it's worth, the tour operators are keenly aware of the ferry schedules, so they'll get you on your way on time. To put it differently, you are best off both booking the ferry ride and the portion of the trip on land. Tip #4: The Cliffs of Moher need to be seen in person. You can take lots of photos, but it's hard to capture cliffs that are roughly 700 feet tall and run for miles. We've posted a panoramic shot, but you need to be there. Tip #5: It bears repeating. The sea here can get very choppy. Take a motion sickness pill ahead of time. While you are at it, consider sun screen as there is virtually no cover on the island itself. This trip was a highlight of our two-week visit to Ireland.
Perhaps the best way to enjoy the Cliffs. Stand starboard and you’ll see them up close end to end. And Inishmore is a delight. A wonderful tour I would highly recommend. One suggestion, look at the website. You’ll find the audioguide and more info that was helpful.
A bit too expensive ($25) for the island tour. The ocean tour to see the cliffs was magnificent with the winds and waves. We had seen the cliffs from above, so we saw them completely.
Beautiful and daring, on the way there the boat rose on the waves and fell into the next trough. Exciting but with a bit of fear. On the return, the pilot decided it was not wise to approach the Cliffs of Moher and went straight to Galway. A very wise decision. All the crew members, very young guys, worked hard to reassure those who were not feeling well. A wonderful experience.
