The boat was great from Rossaveel, it did leave a little early though so don't wait until last minute. The 1030 boat left at 1015. The island was wonderful, with some nice shops and restaurants and a fantastic traditional irish pub with ham and cheese toasties and great guiness.
I have visited Inis Mór many times now. It is the largest of the three Aran Islands in Galway Bay, western Ireland. Guided by Oliver Faherty, whose family have lived on the island for generations, I have wandered off the beaten track having wonderful experiences in this ancient landscape. Oliver is a man of the land, a builder of stone walls, a farmer of the soil. He knows where the thin places are, the sacred wells and holy places, the pagan sites and hidden lore. Fluent in Irish and English, he interprets this ancient place and makes it come alive. We have tramped boreens to iron age forts; hiked the limestone hills to the Wormhole; driven little lanes to old oratories and temples; and taken in the views over thousands of miles of stone walls and thousands of years of history. If you make the crossing to Inis Mór, take a raincoat and a flask. Wear your walking boots and ring Oliver. He will show you HIS island.
The boat ride can be rough. Bring Dramamine with you. There are no pharmacies on the island! Once on the island though, it’s beautiful.
Absolutely perfect from start to finish. The lads went above & beyond for us. They took my two daughters into the controls room & let them sit in the captains seats! Aodan in particular was spectacular,he then took us down to the bar and got us drinks, treats or what ever we needed. Spacious, clean boat. The crossing was very smooth. Would highly recommend aranisland ferries & will certainly be availing of them on our next visit!
easy nice trip - well organized - bus from depot in galway to ferry terminal - ferry was clean, pleasant and comfortable seats - the staff was welcoming and friendly - the island was interesting and worth visiting - a taste of ancient ireland
Great full day trip. Leaves dock in Galway @ 930am, arrives Inish Mor @ 11:00am. Smooth ride. Helpful & friendly crew. Leaves island @ 330pm, ride past Cliffs of Moher, return to Galway @ 6pm. Definitely recommend either ebike or hop on/hop off bus, island is hilly and unless you want a workout do not get a regular bike or expect to see much by walking.
I honestly thought this was a great experience. We probably didn't give it as much time as it deserved, but for a few hours we enjoyed the scenery, took a horse and trap ride around most of the island (too windy to bike). hit a cute pub and brief shopping
I don’t understand this business. The weather is highly unpredictable in this area, and even with 45mph wind gusts no refunds are given. How does that make for a good experience? This business is not run properly. Even the tour and bike vendors on the islands refunded us and suggested we not travel that day. Recommendation: Don’t buy tickets in advance because they will keep your money no matter how inclement the weather.
We got on the 9am bus to go to Rossaveel The girl working for the company who was scanning the tickets has to manners whats so ever. When we was passing the que she was barking to the customers “move move” while rolling her eyes and tutting then when she came beside my mother who can be hard of hearing shouts beside us “scoot” in a brass tone! now that is no way to speak to paying customers or as a matter of fact any one at all. Then getting on the bus when she scanned the tickets again “get on” no please or thank you. Being spoken to like this put a dampen on the day being told to “scoot” as if we’re nothing Will not be using the service again
Great service punctual comfortable and prob blessed with good weather. But lovely way to go to Inis Mor. Would highly recommend
