Fascinating tea tour with stunning mountain views!
Stopping at Bluefield Tea Factory on the way between Kandy and Nuwara Eliya was such a great experience! We got a guided walk-through of the factory floor to see the full process of how Ceylon tea is made, from fresh leaf to finished brew. The tea tasting at the lounge was delicious, and the views of the surrounding tea estates and misty hills were absolutely beautiful. A perfect, educational pit stop during the hill country drive!

Tourists can visit for a basic tea factory experience.
Bluefield Tea Factory is prominently located on the main road connecting Kandy to Nuwara Eliya.
Vast tea estate and the main reception centre which resembles a tourist amusement park scene.Lots of tourists are brought in hordes by guides and drivers who have an arrangement with the tea estate team, for obvious reasons.
The parking area and restaurant is crowded in contrast to the serene environment outside.
There are sales teams who are allotted to the tourists. They have both basic free tours and also paid tours, which they try to sell.
The guide takes visitors to the factory ,explaining the tea making process right from raw leaves to final packed state, which is informative. But the guide hurries through the process without patience ,probably to take on the next visitor as target.
The final section is the display of different tea in cups.
Tourists are then brought to their restaurant which offers only a free sample of basic tea and others are to be purchased at high prices.
Their shop selling tea and spices are highly overpriced, targeting the tourists.
One can visit this place for a basic tea factory experience keeping in mind the high prices at their stores.

A Wonderful Tea Experience at Bluefield Tea Plantation
Bluefield Tea Plantation was a fantastic and immersive experience for our family. We arrived with no queues and were lucky enough to have a personal tour just for us, which made the experience even more special.
My wife and daughters dressed up in traditional outfits and were able to experience picking tea leaves in the plantation, which was a unique and memorable part of the visit. The scenery around the plantation was beautiful, and it was amazing to be part of the process rather than just observe.
The factory tour was incredibly interesting and insightful. We learned so much about how tea is produced, from the freshly picked leaves through to the different stages involved in creating the final product. Our guide was excellent—friendly, knowledgeable, and took the time to answer all our questions while explaining each step in detail.
The tour finished in the tea garden, where we could choose from a selection of teas to enjoy (with one included as complimentary). Every tea we tried was delicious, and it was a lovely way to finish the experience while taking in the surroundings.
The tea shop was a little on the expensive side, but it had a great range of products and everything you would expect. We also received a discount on our purchases after completing the tour, which was appreciated.
Our whole family loved every part of this experience. We would highly recommend visiting Bluefield Tea Plantation—whether you do the full tour or simply stop by the café to enjoy some authentic Sri Lankan tea, it is well worth the visit.

Highly recommend
We had a great time here with a wonderful guide from the factory. It was really interesting learning about the tea making process and the different grades of tea. The cafe is reasonably priced and you can try their array of teas as well as lots of tasty looking cakes and pastries (although we didn’t get any unfortunately)

Much more than a guide: Jagath and his contagious passion!
If you visit this plantation, you absolutely have to look for Jagath. We chose him after reading that he spoke Italian, and the reality exceeded our expectations: he speaks fluent Italian (and 5 other languages!) learned just by chatting with tourists. He even showed us his notebook where he jots down every new word to practice... such an incredible example of dedication!
The visit was magnificent and very engaging: he had us dress up in traditional tea-picker clothes and explained with extreme clarity the difference between white and green tea, as well as the various stages of production. In the factory, we followed the journey of the leaf all the way to the finished product, discovering the pros and cons of each variety. Special mention: Jagath is also a great photographer! He took so many photos of us during the harvest, which are now our favorite souvenirs. He looked after us kindly until the tasting and helped us choose the best teas to buy in the shop without any rush. Thank you Jagath, you made this day unforgettable!

Great tour - well worth doing!
Had a wonderful tour of the grounds and factory with Riyas. He was highly informative and entertaining and made sure I got to see and understand the tea-making process from start to finish. Was the highlight of my Sri Lanka tour so far. Thank you!

360 degree immersion in tea
Once on site a guide accompanied us first to the plantations of you and explained how it is harvested and the different types, then guided us inside the factory where it is processed and explained everything in detail. You can taste all types of tea inside the store and buy souvenirs. The staff is very professional and has a very warm and kind care and attention to customers. Highly recommended!

Enjoyable free tea tour
We were taken to this tea plantation by our driver and it was a nice little pit stop
First, we had lunch as we had a long drive from Kandy. A lot of the roads still had landslides from the cyclone a few weeks prior so it was slow going. Lunch was buffet style and was LKR2,950 per person. We enjoyed the Sri Lankan curry items and the fruit. À la carte was only a little cheaper but western food and we didn't believe they would do this well.
Second we went on a tour of the yea factory and plantation. My wife was given some garb to dress up as a tea leaf picker; a nice little touch for the photo opp later. You get about 10 mins to take photos in the plantation alongside other tea leaf pickers. Do not take photo with them as they will expect you to pay them. The lady guiding us had very good English and recited her speech to us. We asked questions and she handled them well so she did have more than a cursory knowledge.
Finally, you have a tea tasting. Only the black teas are free. We ordered the silver tip and golden tip teas and these cost about LKR350 each. Before we left, we went into the shop to buy some souvenirs. It's not particularly cheap even compared to Hong Kong where we came from but we're not coming back so it's fine.
