Kendall and Darryl did a very good tour of Limon. They were knowledgeable and we learned a lot about the history and culture. The city itself does not have a lot of sights but the tour highlighted what there is to see.
This tour is a masterclass on the history of Limón and its impact on Costa Rica. From the strength and honor of the indigenous, to the first encounters of the spanish, to the initial efforts of the Chinese to build the rail roads, to the Italian migrants, and ultimately the overwhelming contributions of the Jamaican labor force, this tour effortlessly connects dots and explains the DNA of this location. The guide has a back ground in education and it shows. This is not your typical boring walk where someone points out a couple of buildings while reciting facts from Wikipedia. You will learn of the historical socal and economic factors that forged this city . . . And country. Kendall's ability to give in depth answers to my questions was beyond impressive. . . And I know what to find the best caribbean for and fried chicken. Lol. Do your self a favor. Book this tour!!!
The meeting point was a little further away from the cruise terminal, but thanks to route planner found.. relaxed walk through Limón . Our cool guides have imparted a lot of in-depth knowledge. thx , Ilka (without Anita ) 😜
It was my second time in this area of Costa Rica, but my first time in Limón. Walking around the city with Townbook was the real experience. Pure local hearts! They were born here, and you can really tell how much they love this place, their culture, and all the different cultures that live together and create this vibrant city. The market, the chocolate shop, and all the moments when people on the street passed by saying hi to them…. it truly felt like being part of the community. This is what I value the most when I travel: spending time with locals, hearing their stories, walking with them, and that is exactly what they offer… their places, their art, their buildings. The way they walk, talk, and nurture this community is truly admirable. If you come to Limón or stay nearby, without a doubt, spend time with Townbook. Great job! Pure heart! See you next time! ❤️ Gina
The tour was conducted by 2 very nice brothers. It was very informative and entertaining. Although my English is not the best, I could understand almost everything.
I’m Italian and I live on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica and this walking tour in downtown Limón truly opened my eyes to the culture and history around me in a whole new way. I learned so many fascinating stories about the people, history, and multicultural roots of this region. What I loved most was how the guide brought the history to life. I felt like I wasn’t just walking through streets, but really connecting with the spirit of Limón, its Afro-Caribbean influence, everyday local life, and the significance of each place we visited. The pace was relaxed yet engaging. I left with a deeper understanding and appreciation for this part of the Caribbean coast and I’d definitely recommend this tour to anyone who wants to feel the real culture and heart of this side of Costa Rica.
Our experience with the two Limon brothers was fantastic! We were traveling with two Deaf people and two interpreters and these guys were beyond accommodating. They also knew and loved this city and it made me fall in love with Limon. They gave us history and culture and a lovely walk around their proud city.
Daryll and his older brother were our walking tour guides and they arrived 5 minutes late, so not a great start. They were very personable and are well-known members of the Jamaican community. My main complaint is that the tour lasted for almost 3 hours instead of the 2 hours listed in the experience description. The brothers loved to talk, rather than to walk and show off the sites. In hindsight, I might not have done this particular outing.
Thank you very much for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We’re sorry to hear that this experience did not meet your expectations and that it wasn’t a 5-star experience, as most of our reviews usually are. We truly value all comments, as they help us continue improving. Daryll and his brother are well-known, professional, and very friendly members of the Caribbean community. They are a clear representation of Costa Rican hospitality and the vibrant culture of the Caribbean, and we recognize the dedication and effort they put into every tour. That said, we understand your concern regarding timing and pacing. While some guests enjoy longer, conversation-rich walks, we acknowledge that the experience should align closely with what is described. Your comment has been noted, and we will take it into account to better balance storytelling, walking time, and overall tour duration in the future. Thank you again for your honest review. We hope you’ll consider giving us another opportunity in the future.
Darryl was a phenomenal guide and knew the History of Limon very well. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and learned so much. Definitely a must do and perfect for starting your trip in Limon to get familiar with the area. Pura Vida !
the tourguide was very thorough and allowed us to ask questions. We learned the history of the area and the people who live there. My only suggestion would be to change the meeting point because it was difficult to locate since the business that was the landmark is on an upper level.
