The tour guide was okay. She was a young college student, not a Montreal native or historian, and read a lot of the information out of her notebook. I did not feel like she really had in depth knowledge about the subject matter. When we asked specific questions, she often did not know the answers. It was just not what we hoped for. Also, be prepared to walk a lot. We were fine but there were only 2 places where we could sit for any break. Facts were interesting, just not well presented.
This was a wonderful tour to learn of the history of the settlement and growth of Montréal's Jewish community. My guide was nice and since I was the only person on the tour, our walk was more intimate as we discussed that when humanity does not learn from history, we are doomed to repeat it.
The guide is excellent. This tour brings to life the people and places that made history in Montreal
Our guide Emily(?) was extremely knowledgeable and attentive to our tour. She answered questions thoroughly. And she was incredibly pleasant. We would recommend this to anyone interested in the Jewish history of Montreal.
Fascinating history on this walking tour! Lovely stroll around the Plateau and Mile End - with cool stops along the way. Highly recommend it 😉
Emily was a terrific guide. She was very nice and was knowledgeable about the stops on our tour. She answered many questions. One suggestion- It would have been nice if the tour built in one or two additional resting stops- it was a bit much for a hot day.
This tour was fabulous. Interesting and engaging. Serafina was so great and entertained all questions while keeping the tour moving. Learned so much from her!
Vivien was wonderful. Incredibly knowledgeable and nice. One of the highlights of our trip to Montreal.
I joined this guided walking tour through Mile End and the Plateau. The guide, Emily, was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about providing a rich and fascinating tour. Highlights included visits to former synagogues, bakeries, and iconic buildings and street murals. Emily took time to explain why each place we visited would have been significant to the Montreal Jewish community. What was particularly interesting was to hear about various Jewish groups in the city and the challenges they faced in navigating differences! One point of interest was to see where Mordechai Richler went to high school. Another was to learn more about Yiddish culture in the city and to see where Ida Maze, the "Den Mother" of Yiddish Montreal, held her salons. Getting to see the original YMHA and to hear about its importance in improving the lives of the "downtowners" also stood out for me. The walking pace was comfortable and I had time to take plenty of great photos. I especially appreciated how the Emily connected past and present, showing how Jewish traditions still influence the neighbourhood today. Caveat emptor: be prepared for a fair bit of walking; good sneakers are a must. Overall, I’d give this tour 5 out of 5 stars. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in Montréal’s Jewish cultural history, architecture lovers, or visitors looking for an off‑beat experience. I'm sure all the guides are great, but if you get Emily, you're in for a real treat!
This was a terrific tour that brought our multi-generational group (young adult and parents) through a part of Montreal that we would not have known to explore. How interesting to peer through side alleys and to see storefronts and inscriptions that gave us insights into 20th century writers, thinkers, and drivers behind Montreal's Jewish community! Our guide Vivian was lively and engaging, and she was patient and knowledgeable when it came to any question that came up.
