He is an exceptionally knowledgeable and engaging guide who gave us a deep understanding of Lanna culture, history and everyday life in Northern Thailand.
What we particularly appreciated was the personal character of the tour. Richard did not simply take us from one sight to another; he shared stories, background and insights, answered all our questions and adapted the day to our interests. His knowledge is impressive, but he conveys it in a relaxed, informative and very enjoyable way.
We especially enjoyed discovering places and aspects of Chiang Mai that we would hardly have found or understood on our own.
Outstanding Chiang Mai Guide!
We had an absolutely exceptional experience with Richard as our private guide in Chiang Mai! Our family of four—all adults—spent two full days with him, and he went far beyond what we could have hoped for.
From the very beginning, Richard was outstanding. I contacted him about availability and he responded immediately. Even though our request was last-minute, he was able to accommodate us quickly. He also took the time to offer numerous suggestions and recommendations for each day, tailoring the itinerary to what we were interested in seeing and experiencing. His flexibility and willingness to customize our experience made such a difference.
Both mornings, Richard arrived promptly at our doorstep with a spotless, comfortable vehicle and was ready to go. We had his full attention for approximately 10 hours each day, yet the days never felt rushed. He managed the timing, transportation, sightseeing, food stops, and logistics seamlessly, allowing us to simply enjoy ourselves.
What really set Richard apart was his knowledge and perspective. He has an impressive understanding of Chiang Mai and Thai history and was able to explain the places we visited in a way that gave them real meaning. But even more than the historical knowledge, we loved getting his local perspective. He didn’t just take us to the typical tourist attractions—he helped us experience Chiang Mai through the eyes of someone who knows and loves the area. The local food, markets, neighborhoods, and everyday experiences were some of the highlights of our trip.
Richard was incredibly personable, attentive, professional, and genuinely interested in making sure we had a wonderful experience. He listened to what we wanted, made thoughtful recommendations (even for days we were on our own), and was happy to adjust plans along the way. It felt much more like exploring Chiang Mai with a knowledgeable local friend than taking a traditional tour.
After two full days with Richard, we felt like we had seen a side of Chiang Mai that we never would have discovered on our own. He made our visit more interesting, more authentic, and so much more enjoyable.
We highly, highly recommend Richard! If you’re visiting Chiang Mai and want more than just a standard sightseeing tour, book him. His knowledge, professionalism, flexibility, local insight, and genuine hospitality make him an exceptional private guide. We would absolutely choose Richard again on a future visit to Chiang Mai!

Richard is an awesome tour guide! :) The entire process went smoothly; from the booking, to the last day of the tour. Great communication through out and he offers a very flexible schedule. He is always catering to the client’s needs. In addition, his recommendations for cafes, local food, shopping etc are really good. If you’re looking for a private tour with your family or friends, Richard is your guy! Overall my family and I had an amazing experience for our first time in Chiang Mai.
