Watching a group of elegant pink flamingos peacefully feeding in a tropical garden was an unexpected highlight. Stepping out of the station, I was immediately struck by how clean, organized, and sophisticated everything felt. Monte Carlo: The Heart of Luxury In the afternoon, I walked downhill toward Monte Carlo. Day 3 A Perfect One-Day Trip from Nice to Cannes: A Walking Tour Along the French Riviera The French Riviera is famous for its glamorous towns, stunning Mediterranean coastline, and relaxed coastal charm While Nice makes an excellent base for exploring the region, one destination that deserves a place on every itinerary is Cannes. Just a short train ride away, Cannes offers a perfect mix of luxury, history, sandy beaches, and vibrant streets—all easily explored on foot in a single day. The journey takes only about 35 minutes, but it is one of the most scenic train rides in southern France. As the train hugged the Mediterranean coastline, breathtaking views of turquoise waters, palm-lined beaches, and charming seaside towns made the journey feel like part of the experience. The Palais des Festivals et des Congrès No visit to Cannes is complete without stopping at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès, home of the legendary Cannes Film Festival. Standing on the famous red-carpet staircase, I couldn’t resist imagining the world’s biggest movie stars arriving for one of cinema’s most celebrated events. Outside the building, handprints of famous actors and directors line the walkways, allowing visitors to literally walk in the footsteps of Hollywood legends. Whether browsing designer stores or simply enjoying a fresh pastry from a local bakery, the city invites visitors to slow down and enjoy its relaxed pace. The lively atmosphere made it easy to spend hours simply exploring without a fixed destination. Driver was prompt, although the port meeting area is very small and crowded in Cannes which makes it very difficult. The driver's English skills were good, but not great. We know a bit of French which helped. Monte Carlo was great to visit, but the driver was limited in his area for drop off and pick up due to permitting restrictions. Required quite a walk for us to meet him back near the train station.
