What a fabulous day eating our way through Moorea.! Hematte was so knowledgeable about food and the island. Each thing we tasted was more delicious than the last. We love getting to know new places through the food, and this tour did not disappoint.
The tour with HeiMata was terrific. So glad we went on this tour when we first arrived.
It was really interesting to learn about the local food culture/customs. We tried many different foods which made for a tasty lunch but since they're small tastings, you won't get super full on the tour. We were in two vans and Hemaina did his best to manage our group of 8 Americans and 8 Europeans from France and Spain, but I longed for a smaller, intimate group. Also, we didn't get to visit spots I was hoping to visito on the tour (ie juice factory, rum tasting, agricultural school, etc.). That said, we still enjoyed our tour because we love learning about local food culture.
Wonderful experience Great discovery of Tahitian gastronomy, from snacks to more elaborate dishes. Also a great discovery of Polynesian landscapes and culture by Heimata, who loves his island. I recommend it.
We were in French Polynesia for 14 days (11 on the Paul Gauguin cruise ship) but had researched and booked this tour well in advance due to our short time on Moorea. It was by far our best tour, and a welcome respite from the snorkeling, whale watching, and other more active tours. Heimata Hall, the owner and tour guide, was amazing, and we actually sampled 14 different foods from small local vendors that we would not have discovered on our own. Heimata knew the best restaurants on all the islands, and you felt like "family" touring with him. Highly recommended!
This was an excellent experience! My son and I had a wonderful time learning about the island history and tasting amazing food.

Our guide grew up on the island and was trained in culinary - could not ask for a better way to understand what life was like on the island and how different countries had influenced the cuisine we experienced. Food selections were excellent and things I would probably have not encountered, even being somewhat adventurous in trying new things. The tour also allowed for a little time here and there to gather souvenirs- food related or otherwise- which was appreciated because we had taken the ferry over from Papeete for the day. Highly recommend and one of the best food tours we have done in various cities.
Do not eat prior as there's going to be several stops. The portion sizes vary depending upon the venue.
