It’s interesting to read the many 5-star reviews from guests who appreciate our attentiveness to your safety, which is always our top priority, and the kind words so many others have for the level of service we provide and attention to all of our guests. None of our reefs are as you describe, and in particular Coral Gardens. It is my belief that some guests are not able to appreciate the days when we are unable to safely access the crater, and thereafter nothing we do will change their negative vibe. We feel that the majority of our guests will read the other reviews including others on the same excursion and day, who had a wonderful experience. Some see the glass as half full while others as half empty.

Mahalo for understanding that there are those days when the conditions are unsafe to access Molokini Crater. Your safety is our number one priority, followed by providing you with an exceptional experience. That is why we have alternate snorkeling locations that are beautiful, with colorful and diverse marine animals, coral and underwater formations, ledges, and terrain. I’m proud of our teams who love what they do and appreciate you for making it possible.

We realize that it is disappointing when the conditions at Molokini Crater are unfavorable. Your safety is and will always be our number one priority. Most of our guests appreciate that your safety is our number one priority, including others who also reviewed their experience that same day and gave us 5-stars. Fortunately, there are other nice areas which offer great snorkeling with plenty marine animals, turtles, and coral, such as Turtle Town and Coral Gardens which is where we go in the days when it is not safe to snorkel At Molokini, due to high winds, surge or waves. There is parking very near the boat which is $2 per hour. We suggest that our guests pay for 6 hours at a total cost of $12.

The reason we ask that you arrive at 7:30 for an 8:00 AM departure, is so that you have plenty of time in the event of heavy traffic on your way from your resort. On rare occasions when there is an accident on the highway, and we know that many of our guests are delayed, we will wait an extra 5-10 minutes for those stuck in traffic. We have found that most of our guests understand the situation and would appreciate the same consideration if they were running 5-10 minutes late through no fault of their own. We never have nor will hold the boat until 8:30 though. We have found that the majority of guests who join our 8 AM excursion appreciate sleeping in a little later on vacation. If you are an early riser, our luxury power catamaran, departs at 0700, though our 8:00 AM departing vessel visits Turtle Town with the same frequency as our earlier boat.

As a leader in our field, with over 40 years in Hawaiian waters, we are one of the most experienced operators on Maui. Our Captains have decades of experience, and we are proud that the safety of our guests is our number one priority. There may have been less experienced operators who may take risks we simply are not willing to take with the safety of our guests, which is a responsibility we take very seriously. On the day you joined us there was a large south swell and surge reported at Turtle Town and all along the south facing shoreline. On this day, remaining offshore at Molokini offered the best overall conditions in terms of underwater visibility, and the safest conditions in terms of dangerous surge on the south shoreline. I realize that you do not understand the local weather, or the fact that Turtle Town and many of our second snorkel stops on a day when it is safe to move to the shoreline, are on the way back to the harbor, so to assume we remained at Molokini was to do the least we could for you, is simply not accurate. Remaining at the crater provided you with the best and safest snorkeling opportunity of the day. Over the past 40 the vast majority of our guests appreciate our attention to safety, which is the most important detail there is. After we serve you a freshly prepared BBQ lunch, cooked right onboard and you have completed your snorkeling for the day, we do provide an open bar, where we serve ice cold micro brewed beers, and hand crafted mai-tais.
