Jack the Ripper tour that never happened, but good fish & chips joint
The only reason I’m giving this tour a rating of 2 stars is because of the fish & chips. Poppie’s was a cute place (50’s style diner) with very good, fresh, fish & chips, with lots of different types of fish to choose from. I highly recommend going there.
Sadly our tour didn’t happen. The original directions to the meeting place were vague. The meeting place changed and those directions were worse than the original directions. It took us 45 minutes to make the so called 15 minute walk to the meeting place and we missed the tour. We messaged the tour provider and got crickets… still waiting for a response days later!
Poppie’s is located right around the corner from the Ten Bells (the ENDING location for the tour), but 45 minutes from the starting point. That has to be the STUDPIDEST plan ever! I would not recommend this tour to anyone I liked, only to people I wanted to get back at from some wrong done to me!

You received an email two days before the tour explaining that the starting place had changed. I had upgraded you to the longer tour as there was no Jack the Ripper (Whitechapel) taking place on that date.
The email gave you full directions to the new starting point but apparently you did not see this until you had been waiting at the old starting point last Saturday.
If you had then checked both sets of instructions you would have seen that you were only 100 yards from the new starting point and could have managed to catch the tour. It is only a 15 minute walk from Poppies to Aldgare East Station and a further 4 mins to Aldgate from there, it certainly not 45 mins to either! Unfortunately I could not answer my phone when you tried to contact me as I was stuck on an Underground train with no signal, so did not receive your call.
No other customers have complained about the directions and have all managed to find the starting points of both, if the directions were vague we would have many complaints about this.
We have bookings practically every tour for both versions with Fish & Chips and send our customers to Poppies as it is the best Fish & Chips in the area!

So good and worth every penny.
What a dreadful wet British Friday evening. It was perfect to wander around the backstreets of a very different London Town. The guide whose name escapes me, was dressed in an outfit which was of the time and really knew her subject. There wasn’t a thing she was asked that she couldn’t answer and you can tell she had a real depth of knowledge. The evening started with a very good quality fish and chips at Poppy’s. Then a five minute walk to the white hart pub to meet up with the tour. I was amazed that there were about 25 people on the tour and all could hear what was being said as the guide was wired up with a mic and speaker. At each stop she held up a tablet showing images of the victims (some were very graphic) which you were warned about before being shown. I was so impressed with the whole experience from the food to the tour it was brilliant. Do yourself a favour and book this tour. The guide is superb and the whole thing including the rain was perfect.

Jack the Ripper walking tour and fish and chips at Poppies
On Saturday 9th of August we went on the Jack the Ripper walk which included fish and chips at Poppies in Hanbury Street before the tour. The fish and chips were very nice, the staff were very friendly and Poppies has a great feel to it with its decor and ambience which had a feel of the 50’s and 60’s to it. As for the tour, it was brilliant. Having lived in London all our lives and being familiar with the ripper murders, it was a very entertaining, highly informative and most enjoyable tour. Our ripperologist/tour guide Lyndsay was superb. Lyndsay covered in great detail the murders, how Whitechapel was back in 1888, how Whitechapel has changed over the years and who the main suspects were. If you have Lyndsay as your guide, you will not be disappointed. We would highly recommend this tour for anyone who has heard of Jack the Ripper.
