ドーハが世界的な金融、文化、観光の中心地へと発展する過程で、カタールの首都に新しい国立博物館が建設されました。ジャン・ヌーヴェルが設計したこの建物は、その大きさと幾何学的な複雑さのため、建物の外壁の設計と設置に最高水準が求められました。設計の基本的なアイデアは、いわゆる砂のバラの複雑なロゼットのような構造でした。砂のバラは、石膏の蒸発結晶化中に砂漠で自然に形成される構造です。
ドーハ湾と街の海岸沿いには、ヤシの木に囲まれた全長 10 km の遊歩道と 2 車線道路が馬蹄形に伸びています。この道路沿いにはホテル、政府庁舎、家族向けの施設がある美しく手入れの行き届いた公園、博物館や図書館などの公共施設が並んでいます。人々は、街とアラビア湾のきらめく景色を眺めながら、コーニッシュ沿いを散歩するのが大好きです。

Noor did a wonderful job of tailoring the tour to the unique interests of those of us on the tour (2). He was informative and very patient. I particularly enjoyed hearing his perspectives on life in Qatar when asked. I hadn't planned on taking the tour but plans changed and I'm very happy that they did. What a wonderful experience! Our tour guide treated us to a local chai, gave us some great insight into the culture and landmarks. He was kind enough to help us find specific souvenir shops catered to what we were looking for.
