The town of Annecy & Lake Annecy are in the same location. Plenty of great restaurants and worth visiting. Once there, all is walkable. Driver was very nice and accommodating but he talked on his phone and texted a lot while driving.
I am a bit reluctant to write this review because I think my experience was blemished by misunderstanding the contradictory listing information. Last minute, my husband and I decided to go to Annecy from Lyon. We looked up train tickets, and while they were still available on the way there, the train tickets going back to Lyon from Annecy were completely sold out. Since we really wanted to go, we decided to look up private guide options and booked this one. The price after conversion from Euros to USD was $890.90 for the two of us. We were staying at the Cour des Loges Lyon which is in the traffic-controlled area, and I was able to communicate with the driver the night before and give him the access code. We set a 7:00am pick up time to get to Annecy early before the rest of the crowds. He was on time and picked us up right in front, which was great. Our assigned driver was polite, and the vehicle was a Mercedes sedan. The ride was comfortable. There was not much talk on the way there. When we arrived to Annecy, the driver pulled over and was simply just going to drop us off and pick us up when we were done. It was at this point that I became confused, because of the way the itinerary is listed on Viator. I asked about Old Town and Lake Annecy, to which he pointed in two directions and said they were right there. I then mentioned that the itinerary also mentioned going to Col de la Forclaz. He seemed reluctant, but then agreed that we could go there "if we want to". Off we went to explore Old Town and Lake Annecy. We were fortunate enough that we happened to be there on the last Saturday of the month during their vintage market. There were many cool and unique items, and we purchased some souvenirs. Then, I purchased an hour sightseeing boat tour to go around the lake. About halfway through the boat tour, our driver messaged me and stated that we needed to leave soon to go to Col de la Forclaz because it is about a 40 minute drive. I let him know that we were currently on a boat in the middle of the lake, and that we should be back by 12:15pm. We did go to Col de la Forclaz, and the views were beautiful. He was really just simply a driver. - Conclude at Col de la Forclaz viewpoint for panoramic lake and mountain views x We would not have gone here if I did not bring it up to the driver and he reluctantly agreed. - WiFi on board x This literally doesn't even matter because we both had international data plans, but I did ask if there was WiFi in the car and there was not. - Throughout your ride, your drivers serve as informal local guides—sharing stories, history, and local tips at every stop. Please note that drivers are not permitted to enter museums or archaeological areas, but they’ll ensure you make the most of your visit with suggestions and background information before you explore on your own. x Our driver really only acted as a driver. He did help us take a photo at Col de la Forclaz. There were no insights, suggestions, or background information. - 2 hours in Annecy - 3 hours at Lake Annecy - 3 hours at Col de la Forclaz x These timings were completely untrue and inaccurate. The 8 hour timeframe is total, including the transit to and from Annecy. It takes about 1.5 - 2 hours to get to and from Annecy, one-way. So really, you only have 4-5 hours to spend in Annecy. Ultimately, we had a wonderful time in Annecy and do not regret going, but I felt a little disappointed by my experience with this listing and the cost value. I don't think it is the fault of the driver either, as they probably just get their assignment without much information as to which specific tour or experience was booked.
